Change of thyroxine

Can I request my gp to try another medicine for hypothyroidism because as I feel that my throat has become very very sensitive with any type of sour ,cold or spicy food although I try my best to avoid these items as much as other reason it could be acid reflux due to RA medication like I recently have started Ointment hardly of 3 week before and was satisfied with its results but my throat has become so painful that thinking to call gp to change my thyroid medicine .One plus point of thyroxine was that I feel fatigue after taking it and my immune system was also response better till 4 to 5 hours after taking it .I really want to know from any of you have changed it and is experiencing better results after it

It seems unlikely that your problems are caused by the thyroxine. You have been prescribed it after it has been shown that your own body is not producing enough thyroxine. It sounds more likely that the reflux that you describe is causing problems.

You could try taking the thyroxine at a different time as I take with food and never had an issue and its worth a try. I'd also ask for blood tests to make sure your taking the right dose too as well as B12 at the right levels as well. I don't think there is any real alternative and thyroxine has been around for a long time so it could be something entirely unrelated but if you do stop taking the thyroxine you could actually go into a coma and die. I've been on thyroxine for over 3o years and never heard of the symptoms you describe so I'm sorry I can't make any more suggestions. x Oh PS Also take with a glass of water so it goes right down and doesn't linger in the throat and if your in real discomfort perhaps a camera investigation might be asked for by your GP so worth asking about. Best of luck.

I've had hypothyroidism since my 60s - I'm now 85 - and as far as I know there is no other way to replace the thyroxine. Must be some other reason for the problem.
