Over the last 4/5 days, the glands in my neck have become swollen with no obvious cause - no sore throat or cold/flu symptoms. I have a feeling I saw this as a side effect of MTX at some point, but can’t find that reference again. Going to try for a GP appointment in the morning, but just wondered if anyone else has experienced this?
Maybe I’m just getting a bit paranoid about every random ailment being caused by MTX! 😱

Hi Soreknees , I do know that swollen glands are a part of RA for some people. I get them under my chin and lower neck sometimes. In the beginning I had them all the time. It’s definitely worth a mention to your doctor and if there’s no obvious cause discovered by him, mention it to your rheumy, as maybe it means upping your meds or changing them. It seems to be another part of this lovely disease!
GP thinks it is a blockage or infection in my parotid (salivary) gland rather than anything more suspicious in the lymph nodes, which is a relief. She also confirmed my white blood cells count from last week’s MTX blood test was normal, so that’s good. I must confess, the spectre of some form of cancer was definitely lurking in the back of my mind - one of the perils of consulting Dr Google!
So it’s a course of antibiotics and off MTX for two weeks, and fingers crossed that sorts it out.
Thanks to everyone for your advice and support! 😀 xx
That's good.. I always try to remember how I would react to things pre-RA. Swollen lymph nodes were a pretty frequent thing, and most times I ignored them. I wouldn't do that now, but it helps me not to panic as I realise I survived X or Y before. (Also pre-Dr Google, who does cause panic easily!)
