Prednisolone and Omeprazole?

Just realised - should I be taking the stomach pills before the steroids? I'll only be taking the prednisolone for about a week and I have been taking with breakfast, but seem to remember something about the omeprazole.

I was diagnosed Omeprazole to be taken because of the Pred Brychni but I was on them a lot longer than a week so maybe you won't need them - best to ring the pharmacist or GP and ask just to be on the safe side. Also, it might depend on what strength Pred you have. x

Hey, how you feeling?

Only time I've ever taken them (2 week course) and I wasn't taking stomach protector. Guess it depends if you get upset tummy on them ?

I think it may depend how long you are on steroids for. As if only taking them for a week you may be okay without the omeprazole. It may well be advisable to contact the person who prescribed them and just check. x

When I was on a short course of pred (2 weeks?) I wasn't given a stomach protector.

I had omeprazole to take with a 10day course of pred. But it was a higher dose of steroid. Sure the GP could prescribe?

I picked up this one trick from somewhere on this forum. I started putting my Pred pill / pills inside a Gel Capsule. It helped immensely with all the heart burn I was getting due to Pred. I was also able to stop taking Omeprazole. I typically use Turmeric capsules, that you can open up, sometimes I take the turmeric powder out of it, sometimes not. But I know you can get various size gel capsules even vegan ones in pharmacy or even on Amazon. May be this will help.

Don't do like me and stay on Prednisolone to long as I now can't do without it.

don't worry - I'm already very reticent. But it has given me a bit respite. Go tmy next appointment in first week of august.

I was on prednisolone for about 8 months. I always took it after breakfast and no other medicine to protect my stomach, I had been ok though.

Initially on steroids & not prescribed anything for my stomach, it was only on here I saw that you're usually given any, mentioned to drs who gave me famitodine, however the local pharmacist said to me about 2 weeks ago I should be on something stronger & should I experience any stomach problems ti phone the drs straight away, I mentioned this at my medication review & was prescribed lansoprazole (I can't take omeprezole) I've never given it a thought on when I should take them but always at 2pm each day x
