Prednisolone and Naproxen

Tomorrow is MRI day. This means that I can start taking the prednisolone that was prescribed over a month ago but advised not to take until after the scan. I'm still a little wary of taking it as I don't want to interfere with the diagnosis if they're not finished after the scan results are seen but I think it's time to start feeling better. What I forgot to ask the consultant was can I take Naproxen and Prednisolone together and if I stop taking Naproxen should I be taking lansoprazole with the Pred only. I will phone the rheumy nurse tomorrow but I don't hear back too quickly so if others on here take pred, do you also take naproxen and/or lansoprazole? Thank you 😀

Hi. I was told that I could still take lansaprazole (omeprazole in my case) with prednisolone and naproxen with prednisolone although if the pred does it's job you shouldn't need it. In my case I didn't need the naproxen once the pred kicked in which was quickly. By the way I'm on biological treatment now. Good luck.

Thank you Biofreak, that's really helpful. I'll keep up with the Naproxen until the pred kicks in...hopefully it will quickly for me too!

The longer you can manage without Prednisolone the better.

Read up on the problems people have trying to get off it….

I had to stop taking it so I had to manage…that is not a criticism of

those who do take it…but once you get the right DMards you

hopefully won’t need it.

I really wary of taking prednisone. My mum has been on it for about 30yrs and my sister 10 yrs. however what I have is a tapering course so should give me a boost while I await the next consultation when he should prescribe a DMARD.

Yes.,but the Pred takes the pain away..& who is going to choose pain when one little pill takes it away?Unfortunately that is why X years later people are struggling to get off it.

Have you asked your Rheumatologist when he is eventually going to give you some rheumatoid arthritis drugs? Have you actually had RA confirmed…or is that the reason for the delay?

You do seem to be waiting so long don’t you?

Fingers crossed you get some action as soon as the MRI Report comes through.

Once the prednisone kicks in you should be able to stop the naproxen. I did x

Many rheumatologists are reluctant for you to take both, as they both have a risk of stomach ulcers. This is increased immensely when taking both. Best check with your rheumatologist who knows your history. Response to steroids will also help with diagnosis, so I wouldn’t worry. Hope things settle soon 🤗

I was told prednisolone naproxen and sulfasalazine were okay providing I spread them out one every morning lunch dinner and took omeprazole to make sure the combination did not affect my stomach. I was on that combo for three years. Now on baricitinib only.
