Stopped prednisolone

Morning all. I was taking 5 mg for about a year and then it’s taken me about another year to get down to the level I have been at recently. So for about 10 days I’ve been taking 1mg/2mg alternate days. Yesterday, I should have taken 2 mg but got sidetracked and didn’t take them. I’ve never done that before. I take them religiously. Obviously want to get off them. Has anyone stopped dead at this stage?. I’m not suffering and they’re right next to me and I’m thinking that it might be God’s birthday present (tomorrow) to finally finish with them. 💫⭐️💐😂🤣

Congratulations on getting down to such a low dose. Why don’t you skip the dose today and take just 1mg tomorrow and carry on like that alternate (zero then 1) for a week and see how you feel? I wish you luck. I’m down to 2mg and will be trying 1mg from next week.

I have just stopped dead but this was at the start of my RA journey and got kick back. I am now down to 6mg and next week 5mg. Once I go under 5mg my GP knows I do what is right for me. However if in doubt check with your GP. You will know if it is affecting you quickly but like Lola has said maybe one day on and one day off for a week and then stop. But GP check worth doing.

Yes, I was wondering how quickly I might be in trouble. It’s tricky isn’t it and as we all say so often “everyone is different”! 😁.

Well done you, i have been on 5mgs for as long as i can remember. I have to take more when i have a infection on my chest which sadly is more often. We can't tell you what to do, but i think you know what your going to do and i think if i had got down to that dose i would do the same. xxxx

Good advice from Loabridge. I went from a very dose dose (but not for RA) and it was hard so well done you.

I wouldnt personally. First id check with doctor as missing a few days could affect your body badly. Then Id continue to taoer off as per instruction. Its quite dangerous to just stop suddenly , even though youve been tapering slowly, follow the doctor instruction for me x

Yes. I think you’re right. I’ve taken one this morning. I only missed one day. I’ll just take the tapering slowly. Thank you.

Correct 💗 Even though I was reduced to 2mgs after a long taper from 20, I was told to do a much slower taper at the end over two months by my very senior rheumy, so I don’t think either it is ever a good idea to drop/stop suddenly and it should be communicated better to patients and ensure they understand. All tapers were on my prescriptions labels and they had to use two box labels to detail the taper! x

We are indeed, but as others have said and I echo, we are not doctors but our experiences can be very helpful indeed and give each other a lot of hope and comfort. 💗

Thank you. ❤️ We can’t do much but I’ve bought some cheese and nibbles and Champagne for the few friends I know will pop by. We can have a mini party.
