Methotrexate & feeling sick remedy (works for me)

Hi Everyone

Sorry if this has been covered previously but had to share.

At the consultants appointment last week and the discussion around MTX and how sick I was feeling for up to 5 days, he said if I take the cyclazine an hour before the MTX and then again in the morning this should help.

I've got to be honest it's worked a treat, previously I was still taking cyclazine for up to 5 days - 3 times a day, I've only had to take it as he suggested, I have felt slightly sick on odd days since which passes pretty quick but this could also be the introduction of leflunomide & prednisolone x

That's great news Garnacha, there's nothing worse than nausea when you know you have to take meds long term, I had it with MTX for the first few months and was eventually given Ondansetron but by that time, it had eased off. x

Good news. I find the same when on 20mg but take a different antiemetic to cyclizine. Mine takes up to an hour to work so why I was told to take it before MTX, then I can take another 8 hours later if needed but haven’t needed to. So pleased it's helping you, we want to shout it from the rooftops when we get results don't we?! If you've been prescribed it as a single script (acutely) as a trial to see if it helped it might be an idea to ask if it can be added to your repeat list.I don't find prednisolone makes me nauseous, or LEF when I took it, but it's the old same thing, not everyone responds the same or have the same side effects.

thank you and yes, small steps but lots to shout about when you get good results 😌, I've just been to pick up another prescription for MTX and they've automatically given me cyclazine, I also checked on my doctors surgery app and it's available for reorder so even better 😊 x

I had nausea and indigestion for some time after starting leflunomide. It did eventually go away but I am pegged at 10mg per day as higher dose adversely affects my liver. I’m currently on sulfasalazine as well as leflunomide and feeling pretty nauseous again with a side order of rotten headache.

Aaw there’s nothing worse, can you take any anti sickness tablets to help maybe?

this is the anti-sickness pill that I take and its marvellous😊👍

I don’t recall suffering as much nausea with Leflunamide as Methotrexate, but the anti sickness meds (I’ve taken the 2 brands mentioned plus Metoclopramide) dealt with it very well. I gather skin infections and severe diarrhoea are sometimes side effects. I was put back on MTX when I started to get bad skin infections taking Leflunamide.
