Morning everyone I have just finished a 6 week course of prednisolone for inflammation and now up to 6 sulfasalazine have been on sulfasalazine for 11 weeks and they really have helped my ankle and haven't had any side effects anyway got phone call from surgery this morning got blood test yesterday and have had every 2weeks and have always been satisfactory except for the inflammation 6 weeks ago anyway was asked to go back for blood test as showed up elevated red blood cells and still some inflammation does anyone know if it's the sulfasalazine causing this and maybe need different medication

We can’t tell you, as you need your doctor to look at all your results.

It’s possible that the pred and the sulpha haven’t yet got everything under control. Although Sulpha can take more than 3 months to work, so yiur doc might say you should wait a bit longer or try something else as well as or instead of the sulpha.

The elevated red blood cells may well just be a blip. Which is why they repeat the test. You could just have been a bit dehydrated or something else as simple as that. One wonky blood test rarely means much.

Thanks helixhelix I really appreciate your reply I really thought the sulfasalazine was working but maybe not

One benefit of our conditions and the medications we take is we are regularly checked and its great you've had your blood done every 2 weeks.

As helix said could just be a blip or dehydrated etc, important thing is they are on the ball and rechecking it.

Yeah totally understandable, great that the sulfasalazine is working though, its nice when you start to feel better isn't it x

Good luck with the new test, have a few glasses of water a bit before 😁
