I had a very bad experience with methotrexate, taking as tablets. I felt sicker on a weekly basis with nausea, dizziness and worst of all breathing until I eventually went back to my GP who sent me to hospital! It appears that the methotrexate had also turned against my now very low immune system! Apparently this is a million to one chance my Rheumatologist told me. However it caused irreversible damage to my lungs and kidneys. Breathing has become so laboured I can't do simple things like taking a shower without sitting down! I have had my first vaccination and will have my second next week. I now take 10 mgs of Prednisone and 100 gms Hydroxochloroquine and Aziathioprine. I have lost most of my hair which has grown back coarser and curly! I've lost my hearing, now have hearing aids, my vision has deteriorated,, my skin is not only oversensitive but incredibly bruised at the lightest touch I look abused! Luckily I am 82 years old and have had many years of producing a family, travelling, and many adventures! My heart goes out to all the younger people suffering from this dreadful debilitating disease.

Oh dear Ladyfairfax, I am so sorry to hear all this. You really have had it all thrown at you and through no fault of your own, RA really does have a lot to answer for and so do the medications. I hope you are managing to cope with it all and have someone with you to help you when you need it. Thank you for your post and please post again. Take care. xx
What a devastating reaction. I am so sorry to hear of your struggle. I send you my very best wishes.
My heart goes out to you. I wish you will find an effective medication that you can tolerate very quickly. A big hug to you.
That’s awful! I’m sorry to hear how terrible it’s been for you. However I love how upbeat you still sound which is so lovely to see. Very gentle hugs 🤗
Sorry to hear of your awful experience. It is wonderful however to hear your positivity shining through. Old age is a blessing not granted to so many and we somehow have to appreciate that fact and work through the obstacles laid in our path. Wishing you better times ahead x
So sorry for all your 'troubles' I have been on methotrexate for all the 9 years that I've had this awful disease gradually increasing strength but still OK. Not sure what the future brings but live for today. Hope your new drug regime gives you some relief.
Dear Lady , I am so sorry to hear your story but you are through the worst I hope. I've been on methtrexate for 5 months and my immune response levels are now abnormally low so I will be contacting my doctor to make sure that's ok. I lost my hair last year but thankfully it's growing back now. What are bodies put us through!! Thank you for posting and I trust things will get better for you. x
Stay safe!
