My mum’s RA was very well controlled on Enbrel but things started to deteriorate after she was switched to Benepali. I understand that Baricitinib is an oral medication but my mum was also given a choice of another injection. Really don’t know which to choose. Is there a problem with choosing a tablet as the next biologic rather than an injection? Like might the immune system get resistant? I don’t know

Rheumatologist wants mum to start Baricitinib.
I’m starting baricitnib on Friday. I was on entanercept. I also take methotrexate.
They are a different form of biologic . A jak inhibitor so they target in a different way. I believe there are not too many side effects.. I hope this is the case. It’s also a drug that can be taken without MTX , I’m taking the two together with the hope of reducing MTX. I believe it’s one of the drugs that can leave the system quickly if there is a problem .
Hi, I was on Enbrel the same as your mum and I stayed on it whilst I was pregnant but after I had my little boy my RA went out of control. I was in a terrible way.
It’s taken a while to get back on course but I’m doing so well on Baracitnib and methotrexate now. It started working quite quickly and then I’ve seen the full effect at 6 months.
I like how it leaves your system quickly if you need it to.
I know we are all different but I really like this drug so far! And I didn’t have high hopes for it at the start!
I hope your mum gets some relief soon
Good luck xxx
If you put 'baricitinib' into the search box, you will find previous posts about this JAK inhibitor. Another place to find reliable information is to look at the treatment pages on the NRAS website. I can't see any logical reason why a tablet should make it more likely to produce resistance to treatment but it does seem that sometimes, and in some people, treatments become ineffective after a while. But other people are on one treatment for man years with success. Immune systems are funny things.
I am on this drug now as the one i was on stopped working during lock down and i was in in agony. I have been on it for almost 2 months and i have improved a lot and i take it in tablet form.Hope your mum improves quickly
Brilliant I’m glad it’s working
