Covid testing advice

Hey fellow creaky ones :)

Have just had a phone call from my boss - one of our workmates has just been confirmed as Covid positive. While I've been isolated mostly at work in a room on my own, wearing a mask all the time, with a window open at all times, during my shift I have had to go & talk to other staff members, all be it distanced as we could. The only day myself & the positive staff member worked on the same day was Thursday. She developed symptoms Friday, obviously got a test & just got results. I will have passed by her in corridors probably, plus used areas where she may have been. I've no symptoms at the mo but am on 4 weekly biologic infusions. Just looked at the government site to see if I could get a test but it looks like I can't coz I don't have symptoms. Or can I qualify because of my illness & being exposed to a Covid positive person??? Anyone got any info / advice??

Thanks in advance xx

Hi cookiecrumb, it’s a worry, isn’t it?

My understanding is that you book a test straight away, if you have any one of the symptoms.

I also believe that if you have been in the presence of the infected person, you should be self isolating. This applies whether you’ve been contacted by track n trace, or not.

Maybe someone else will have further information.

Stay well x

Hi my understanding is that as she has had a positive test, track & trace will contact you if a test is necessary. If your face to face interaction was less than 15 mins, you maintained social distancing & if you had a mask on when within 2 metres of other people it shouldn’t be a problem 🙂

Yeah, you're right....just not sure I totally think the track and trace is working!! And my work has been pretty good about things. I'm pretty sure I did all the above to keep safe...but you know what it's like when it's important you remember something...your brain switches off :) Tee hee

Mrsb is right... but no wonder you’re very concerned. It’s so difficult just now for anyone with vulnerabilities to be at work.

Yeah, definitely...was literally just speaking to my boss on Friday coz she was getting worried about me again. I'd said that although it was helpful for the company for me to be at work, I was starting to think for answering phones/emails, giving advice over phone, it just wasn't worth the risk... The company that own us aren't that keen on furloughing staff now...apparently would prefer us to have SSP ?!? Thanks for all your support :)

SSP is no substitute for Gov funded furlough! Sounds like maybe you could work from home or exclusively in a room? Hope you find a suitable way forward. x

Sorry about delay in replying..phone been going mad. Unfortunately working from home not really an option...sometimes my internet speed is less than 1 !! No fibre & no prospect of getting it for a long time. Where I am falls between 2 towns & there's just a smattering of houses. A bloke moved in to the area recently & approached BT Openreach - what would it cost if the 14 houses involved contributed to get the fibre laid.....£9,000 minimum each house!!

I agree about the SSP but some of these corporates get out of stuff, don't they, coz of a loophole. Thanks for your advice...the answer is probably staring me in the face...the most important thing is to protect myself...so I think work is going to be sacrificed..

Hard decision when you need your work. Good luck.

Thanks...I think I am luckier than many coz at least for now, I have a job to go back to! And I think the reason my company wants me to take SSP is because the workload for vets hasn't changed this lockdown....we're still really busy...and there's no need to reduce the amount of staff at the mo. But I'm going to struggle a bit to survive on SSP indefinitely....like everyone else :( Any hoo, I'm going to still push for furlough.

And on a positive note, I get to watch all the sappy Christmas films on at the mo!! Tee hee :) Stay safe peeps xx

Why Can’t your company link in to your home phone number & let you email/answer phone/give advice from your home?

Employers have a Duty of Care; and, you may possibly have a degree of protection under disability? Might be worth taking advice from someone like ACAS or CAB about where you stand if you’re asking for ‘reasonable adjustments’ to enable you to continue to work? Along the lines of working from home; or asking for a room for yourself? Or even to have your work station screened off?

Hey everyone again, sorry about delay again and a big thank you for all your advice & help. I'm definitely going to look into all your suggestions. Working from home is a bit difficult coz of what I do for a job...I'm a nurse at vet practice. But I have been thinking of the bigger picture and what's important...and I'm not going to work for now and I'm going to push for furlough. I'm meant to be going to the hosp on Friday for bloods & the following Monday for my Tocilizumab infusion...so I'm going to speak to my rheumy team tomorrow. Coz I don't have any symptoms at the mo & getting a test might be a prob, I'm happy to defer my treatment for a couple of weeks.

Thanks again for all your support...it's really comforting :) :) xx

Hi. Worrying but not inevitable. I agree with what Eiram50 says. Try not to worry but stay at hope just in case. I like fellow creaky ones.🙂

Good o....that's the polite version I call myself !! Tee blooming hee! Have spoken to my rheumy nurse this am...and we've postponed my bloods and treatment for a couple of weeks. I think realistically my contact with the positive colleague was so minimal, I should probably be ok :) Any symptoms, I'll get a test. Thanks for being there :)
