Tested positive for covid

Got my test results this morning and I’ve tested positive, obviously very concerned as I am of course clinically vulnerable. Although I do actually feel okay apart from loss of taste and smell. I have my rheumatologist nurse calling me later just to speak to her about medication and what I should do as I’m on MTX so hopefully she will be able to reassure me a little bit. I know panicking is the worst thing to do but it’s really hard not too!

Oh dear, I'm really sorry to hear that. I can understand you feeling panicky Samantha I would be too but try not to worry too much. Let's hope you have a very mild dose and will recover quickly as some have. 🤞 All the best. x

So sorry to hear you've had a +ve test.

Did you see the GP on BBC breakfast this morning, she tested +ve too, she advised to stay away from the news and certain social media sites as they only add to anxiety and also just take 1 day at a time.

She ticked off everday and had the mindset thats one day closer to feeling better.

Take things easy, hope you are over this quickly x

Oh no Sam! Hope you don't feel too rough and it's just loss of taste and smell. Take each day at a time xxx

You’re young and have only been on MTX a couple of weeks so really the chances are that it will be gone before you know it. And then you’ll be immune! Try not to worry.

Hiya Sam. Sorry to hear you've tested positive. Hopefully this is the worst you feel but if not do seek help. Being so newly diagnosed & only recently started MTX I’m hopeful you'll be fine though. Do as we're advised, stay in, keep fluids up, paracetamol &/or ibuprofen if needed, if you do have a fever that is, unless you take it on a regular basis (including cocodamol or any other meds which has paracetamol in it) & make sure your home is well ventilated. Keep your fluids up, you should be going to the loo every 6 hours or so & it should be straw coloured). Some things to keep a close eye on are if you become faint or light headed. If you start aching or have muscle cramps, not that easy to determine between RD symptoms as you are newly diagnosed & MTX likely not having kicked in yet I know but if you have the other symptoms, oh & thirst, it may be more obvious. If you get a cough try a hot drink with honey, or just a spoon of honey & sleep on your side. You should be self isolating as you've lost your sense of smell & taste but don't hesitate to call 111 if you have any of the symptoms. I'm sure I’m preaching to the choir as having just been tested positive you've probably checked. Anyway, I hope you feel no worse than you do now.

Best of luck with recovering. As others have pointed out the good things, I will tell you about a couple I know.

They don’t have any RD but are both aged 71.

Both got CIVID-19. She had to be hospitalised but only for a few days. He barely knew he had it although he tested positive.

Tip: Something I have gleaned from doctors etc online: low Vitamin D contributes to more severe disease.

So I’m glad I take Viramin D3 with K2 and Magnesium, Zinc and Boron. Plus 1,000mg of Vitamin C.

Get well soon. 💐

Hi Samantha,I’ve been on MTX for over 6 years now and have had COVID-19. We are all different but the things I did beyond rheumy advice re meds’ was to up my vitaminD input; drink loads of fluids; rested; ate light healthy foods little and often; took vitamin C and zinc. Rested some more and snuggled down under a warm duvet on the sofa when I needed to.

All the best

But apart from your taste & smell.....do you feel ill? A lot of people test positive & have nothing to show for it.....they are asymptomatic & never need any treatment. Having RA, unless you have any pulmonary involvement does not mean you will need any special. treatment. So just listen to your. Rheumy team about taking your meds & make sure you isolate safely at home.

If you need any advice out of hours you can call 111or 119.
