Good news

I haven't had a consultant for two years after the one had had seen for several years moved, and no-one applied for the post when it was advertised. Having reviews from someone who doesn't know you and of variable quality has been an unsettling time.

I now have a new consultant who I 'met' by phone yesterday. The phone call was 'only' 50 minutes late, but I could see why, as he was a good listener, with good empathy. I did feel confident that management would be discussed with me and that it would be carefully thought out. Relief!

That is good news , 2 years is a long time to not have the proper support , and to get a consultant that listens is a great bonus x

Oh that makes such a difference. My doc is the same. Always late but when you get in he listens to everything , so none of us mind. Bet his Mrs does though, my 4pm was at 5.30 and I got home at 7pm as he took time to give me steroid injection!

A good listener is exactly what you need, he sounds very thorough, all reassuring to hear. 2 yrs is way to long if things aren’t going right, but really pleased for you long may it continue , hope your follow up is sooner than later, Great news..

Really good news especially as you have managed to stay so.positive and helpful for the rest of us during this time thank you.

I value my consultant very much, don't always speak to her personally but she is always there behind the scenes directing the rheumatology nurses, I hope your new one is as good.

I'm in the same position with a new consultant. Your not at St Lukes are you by any chance?

Brilliant. It makes all the difference if you have a consultant you trust and are being treated with respect. Keep my fingers crossed for you.

It's shocking that the post has not been filled for two years and great that it now seems you've got a good consultant at last.

Wow - what a relief. I'm very pleased you have a new doc, and one that seems good too.

My lovely rheumatologist of 20 years has recently retired, and we were being "minded" by his secretary as obviously no-one in place. No idea who was monitoring bloods, etc. I opted to transfer to one of the other consultants thinking that was a good idea. Had 1 brief phone appt which I feel didn't go very well. I've since learned one of the other rheumatologists specialises in juvenile and adult JIA (which is my condition). Sometimes it feels you just can't get things right!!

Anyway, I'm very pleased for you, 2 years is a ridiculous amount of time without a doc. Hope you continue to build a good relationship with him 🤞🤞
