It’s doesn’t make much difference to me. I work in a school and schools will not be in lockdown. My husband is still working from home since the last lockdown. I was shielding last lockdown but if the government doesn’t have a shielding policy I won’t get paid if I self isolate. I haven’t shopped or been to a pub or restaurant and haven’t returned to the gym. Life will be just the same.

Life will be the same for me. I was shielding and have not been out apart from hospital visits and one dental visit. This is my boring new normal 😬

Same for me too. I just wish there was not so much apathy and people were less selfish, we might stand a chance of weakening this virus once and for all.

I agree...im back to a class full of kids on Monday and no shielding in sight. Its silly as by December nothing will change much as schools, colleges and unis open.

Thank you. Back to school and kids coughing and sneezing all over the place. I was told to minimise contact and sit in corner whilst teaching kids. As a TA this is not possible especially as i cover the class alot.

My husband works in school and the children all arrived in separate coaches yesterday to minimise the risk. They all got off in an orderly fashion......saw their friends ran over and gave them a hug and kiss. Then went into their own covid year group doors. Oh dear !!!

I work in a school aswell so will still be on the frontline. It's worrying.

It won't really make any difference to me personally as I'm retired and was shielding last time. I haven't gone out much since it was lifted. I really feel for the small businesses who will lose out again and all the people who will suffer hardship .

Will it work? I don't know. Who knows what the answer is? It might work for a time- but will it all flare up again once restrictions are lifted.?I am starting to feel very down about what the future holds.

Take care x

in reply to MadBunny

Look after yourself. It does all feel a bit grim doesn't it. I don't have a TV. I find that helps!

MadBunny in reply to

Thank you. I did watch the PM's press briefing. I was saddened to see on the news that in one of the tier3 areas people were going to ignore rules and have Halloween parties.

I tend not to watch/ read/ listen to the news unless it's for an official announcement.

Take care yourself x

Will do. Just me and the dawg. Rarely see a soul. Think I might be becoming a bit unhinged...more than usual! I was planting broad beans in the pouring rain out if sheer boredom! Bet the mice eat them!

Little beggars are letting off fireworks round here. Poor dog is under the bed. Last blast before lockdown I guess.

Hopefully. I'm sure people will still let them off though. Our rabbit's a bit freaked out as well.

in reply to

My Darcy won’t go out in the dark at the moment. 3 nights ago hubby got 300 hundred yards fireworks went off in the distance she turned around and came home. Tele on high volume to drown out the fireworks.

KB47 profile image
KB47 in reply to

I don't mind the ordinary fireworks 🎉going off. The ones that I don't like are the ones that go off like bombs. They are so loud that they frighten the daylights out of us oldies. 👵👴I feel sorry for the poor animals, 🐕🐺🐩🐈🐎🐆🦊🦝🐶🐄they must be frightened to death. Where's the joy in letting something off that's just gonna go BANG. In this day and age we dont know what a Fierework is, and what's a bomb. I don't want to sound like a misery guyts, but at least this year there won't be a bonfire up on the green where I live. Every year the bonfire is getting bigger. People are coming by the Lorry load with 3Piece Suites, Beds, mattresses, Tables and chairs, Wardrobes, Tyres, sideboard',etc. It's unbelievable what they take up there. Its beautiful greenery, we used to have lots of wildlife around here, but it's all getting spoiled. Its only just up the road from us. But its being ruined by these bloody idiots building those bonfires. The Firemen come out here with their Fire engines several times a night to douse it down . Last year they had 3 Fire engines that stayed out here all night. One of them was parked 2 houses away from our house. We were chatting to the Firemen and making them cups of Tea. They put a Huge Red Ribbon around the bonfire with the words on it DO NOT CROSS. Oh I forgot to mention the Police. Could be something to do with none of the Police being there. Probably afraid there might have been a bit of trouble,, and none of them wanted to get involved.

Crikey...that sounds dangerous! Did you ever do penny for the guy when you were a whipper snapper? We used to wheel one round in an old pram 😆

Hi Lottieblossom, yes it is dangerous .Hahaha, yes we used to do penny for the guy. My Dad used to help us stuff his old Railway trousers and Jaccket to make the guy.It was pretty good too.( Happy Days ). ☺️ Remember the sparklers we used to hold in our hand. They were good times, but everything have gone over the top now and spoiled everything. The Fireworks today are way too loud.Sounds more like bombs or grenades than fireworks.🤔

Same here normally good kids going loopy outside screaming letting off fireworks throwing mud. The thought of their bedroom isolation is scaring them this time - they know what is coming. One deaf dog sleeping one crazy barking I feel like chucking something myself but stick would get in the way 😡

I feel sorry for the people who are trying to hang on and each time they get told something different. Last night in town weatherspoons was selling pints for 50 p because it will go off. All the staff have lost their jobs. My niece can’t play tennis with her friend outside. Shops closing before Christmas 🎄 life is mad 😡

in reply to Green230461

It's very very sad. I think sometimes when these things do not directly effect people personally they cannot see the great harm.

If I hear one more rich celeb telling people what to do and shooting shouting the odds from their golden mansions I may blow a gasket! The cack has not hit the fan yet. 😟

MadBunny profile image
MadBunny in reply to Green230461

Yes. And just as some if these small businesses have started to get going again they're having to shut down. I heard a guy on the local radio( I didn't catch what he did but it sounded like he was a plumber or some tradesman) . He was saying that he'd just started getting jobs again having only had two in the last 6 months. A lovely little cafe in our town shut for good last week as they had to limit their capacity and just couldn't make enough to pay the rent. The owner had worked so hard to build up her business. Who'd have thought a year ago that we would be in this situation?

Boxerlady profile image
Boxerlady

It won't affect me personally but I think that they should have done it over half term so that the schools were involved. Half cocked as usual 🙄🤦

They not shutting the schools ? Not really a lockdown is it

Boxerlady profile image
Boxerlady in reply to Marionfromhappydays

Exactly - I don't think they'll include education at all....That's why I'd have preferred a 2 week circuit breaker like in Wales

in reply to Boxerlady

This is what a lot of teachers were hoping for. Covid very active within schools. 2 week half term would have slowed it down . Gonna be cold at school as heating off and windows open concentration is going to be hard for the children .

My wife and I are retired so whatever they decide to do makes little difference and our life changed very little even after national lockdown when infections were relatively low. We will just have to soldier on as is until a vaccine is found, hopefully! It's formerly shielding people who have to work like J1707 that I feel sorry for, especially if doing high risk jobs. Plus vunerable people who live in the same house as school children etc, and of course those living on their own.

Ah right, entirely agree! I recall Boris implying or giving the impression that school children are much less efficient at spreading the virus so teachers shouldn't be unduly worried going back to work. IF it makes the rule breakers realise how serious the situation is and encourages them to comply with the restrictions then bring it on. Hopefully those that then test positive and their contacts will isolate as they are supposed to whilst I understand few actually are. 😡

It will not make any difference to me as I’ve hardly come out of shielding anyway. 🙁But now I’m wondering whether my goddaughter’ wedding on 14 th November will be allowed to take place or my own daughter’s on December 12th. 😢

My son got married last week in Glasgow. There were only 6 of them there, my son and his wife, the minister, their two witnesses and the witnesses’ baby. They were allowed to zoom the ceremony and asked the extended family from both sides to join in.

It was extraordinarily moving. 40 plus joined in - from San Francisco, New York, Cairo, North Italy, Sweden, France. Inverness, London, Edinburgh, Ireland, the West Highlands and the Hebrides. The family were muted during the actual wedding but when they had finished it was unmuted it and a mighty cheer went round.

We’re aware that many of the cousins, aunts and uncles were unlikely to have been able to travel so far to be at their wedding in non Covid times, which made this a very, very special and unique family wedding and one which everyone will remember.

I couldn’t load the website (no TV!) on my laptop to catch the first few minutes of the live broadcast, so not sure if it was mentioned re how people come out of the lockdown month? All return to lowest(medium) risk if they get their R factor under 1? Maybe that is something they are formulating for the next announcement/setting of more specific rules for lockdown and exit strategy? I don’t feel people will be allowed to go back to no restriction after one month of lockdown. x

Nope. These Draconian nonsensical measures are killing more people than the actual virus. It's not the well off that are going to suffer. It's the poorest, most vulnerable people. People are losing jobs, businesses, and in many cases the will to live. Protect those that want and need it.

What's the end plan here? There isn't one! This is going to go on and on damaging more and more people's lives. I've looked at the stats. They don't add up. What's more the track and trace isn't fit for purpose. Are we all supposed to hang on until there is a vaccine? Why? Corona vaccines are notoriously unreliable. Are we going to crash the economy every time there is a virus? Makes zero sense to me. Many epidemiologists and doctors agree. Hence Barrington declaration, which I signed before it was hidden by Google! Actually it's back up if anyone hasn't read it and is interested in signing.

Thoroughly agree. Too many people dying of untreated diseases and too many waiting for diagnosis as well and those numbers are going up daily.

Partner has had Cancer for five years and lives with treatment induced Diabetes type 1. Me, I have Lupus SLE, APS, Advanced Osteoporosis and Advanced Osteoarthritis. We have received telephone appointments which have given us support from our Consultants.

We're diagnosed. Others aren't and need urgent help.

Our sleep has been affected dreadfully, he has numerous problems that have increased and I've had a Lupus flare for the first time in six years with the stress.

Too many people out there are alone unlike us. Just a day ago I read of a woman 20yrs my junior, I'm 52, who has an eight year old child to care for and yet she's managing to work fulltime with diseases that are crippling her because she has to. I felt humbled as we are both ex-service and retired. Many disabled are now being looked after by their children before they go to school.

The virus isn't the only problem we should be worrying about. Government care schemes for elderly and disabled are virtually non-existent. Online shopping does not solve everyones problems.

I may sound harsh but living with the diseases I have the virus is bottom of my worries. The Barrington Declaration made sense.

I do respect others views so please everyone, stay safe whatever your thoughts,x

in reply to catno1

I agree. People were initially extraordinarily good at locking down. Unfortunately the likes of Ferguson, Cummings, Hancock and many others simply could not follow their own advice. If people are treated like idiots they will behave just so. Viruses cannot be stopped by locking down. As soon as everything is opened up again bam!

The stats are wrong. Ivor Cummins gives a good review of them.

I also respect other people's views. Unfortunately many alternative views have simply been shadow banned and not been seen on mainstream media . We have had constant fear mongering. This is not a democracy. Give people the facts, they will do the right thing. All we have had from the government thus far is gaslighting! Eat out, don't eat out, wear a mask, don't...etc. interestingly the WHO are against lockdowns.

Also...pretty soon no NHS. No money.

The American Institute for Economic Research are behind the Great Barrington declaration. There is also a lot of criticism of both them and it online, scientific and otherwise. Not trying to be inflammatory, just balanced. No easy answers to this 🙁

in reply to Kerensa21

Thank you. Agreed.😁

Unfortunately there has been no balance up until now. The mainstream media has behaved absolutely appallingly. We have had one-sided, biased, fear mongering reporting that has terrified people. What happened to fair journalism? But terror sells newspapers. Worse still, anyone that questioned the numbers and the current narrative was destroyed, de-platformed or called a covidiot! No discussions, you're just an idiot. Firstly this is not how democracy works, and it's definitely not how science works.

All we have heard is 'we are following the science' as if science is a fixed entity. It isn't. The best thing about science and scientists (or so I thought!) was the ability to look at things from all angles and perspectives, to listen and use different methods, peer review, and look carefully at the facts, and change if it's called for.

All other very well respected scientists, doctors, epidemiologists have just been tossed aside as if they are part of some sketchy tin hat brigade. So disrespectful, and I feel dangerous. We must always have open dialogue and debates. At the moment this feels very much like a dictatorship. The police commissioner told the public to dob in their neighbours. This is disgusting, and encites hatred and violence in my opinion. The police have overstepped the mark, and it will get worse. People have been so terrified they just go along with it all.

At least now the media is starting to to show a few more facts, and people are a little less afraid to stick their head above the parapet. I've been shot at a few times! Not because I deny the existence of the virus (I do not) but because I questioned the narrative.

I'm about as popular as a stoat up a trouser leg in my neighbourhood. 🙄

I agree with you. If we cannot debate we are no longer a democracy. We are being told half truths that contradict themselves. We are being treated like ill educated fools when we are not. A pandemic does not affect mental capacity it simply makes you unwell. If we were told the truth we would be more likely to comply. RA makes you reassess your circumstances.

Well in France we were locked down on Thursday night, right before a pretty major holiday weekend here (although there is a tolerance to allow people to get home from holiday as long as they do so by tomorrow night).

Schools and jobs that can’t be done at a distance stay open - but all the way along education has been a priority here, even with kids taking it in turns to go to school to keep class sizes small and spread out.

I think it had to happen as people were just being totally stupid. Will they learn this time? Probably not, so we will have a repeating cycle of opening up and locking down for possibly years to come. Sad, but until people behave and there are better, faster testing and tracking systems that’s what’ left.

I personally think the Barrington declaration is totally daft. Who looks after the vulnerable people for example? It is extremely difficult to maintain social distancing in a care home for people with dementia. Am I, fit and healthy but an older person with RA and on drugs, more vulnerable than a young, obese smoker? I don’t think so. It is impossible and inhumane. And looks as if herd immunity is unlikely to be achieved with this virus anyway.

It just needs everyone to play their part....including MPs, special advisors and all those other high profile people who think the rules don’t apply to them.

in reply to helixhelix

People won't though Helixhelix. They have had enough of the lies, and ridiculous turnarounds and totally arbitrary rules. People will panic buy and revolt. It's happening all over.

I'm sorry to say those in care homes were not looked after in the first place. Many were moved from hospital (with covid) and into care homes. Sadly I think lessons have not been learned and it will happen again.

This is winter. Respiratory illnesses always rise. Weird that flu appears to have disappeared this year! I'm afraid I really despair for the rise in non covid deaths. The suicide rate has almost doubled. Child poverty and domestic violence all on the rise. Plus the NHS has pretty much become the covid NHS. I hope I am wrong, but I fear lockdown will be a catestrophic mistake.

I hope you are keeping ok?

wishbone profile image
wishbone in reply to

I agree with much of what you say, but what do you suggest we do to contain the virus so it does not overwhelm the NHS, which does seem likely if no form of mitigation is used? It does seem a bit strange how we are not hearing about many cases of flu. I wonder if that could be due to the old and vunerable, who are most at risk of being hospitalised, are already taking precautions because of covid.

helixhelix profile image
helixhelix in reply to wishbone

People are washing their hands, not coughing over each other, and using hankies...so doesn’t surprise me that much less flu around.

I’m not sure where the UK is about testing now, but it seemed to be a joke for an awful long time. Even with a lockdown if there’s no effective testing, tracing and enforcing self-isolation then things will keep bubbling up.

wishbone profile image
wishbone in reply to helixhelix

I'm not sure what the current situation on testing is. Very good if you listen to government, but a right mess according to others. If I was a betting man I'd place a whole month of my old age pension on the latter being nearer the mark. :-)

in reply to wishbone

Hi wishbone

The NHS was not overwhelmed before. The Nightingale hospitals were barely used, and I think one at least has closed down. I would need to check that. If still going then these should surely be used. The good thing now is that we now have better treatments and know not to use respirators.

Cases does not mean deaths. There has been more testing. More testing means more cases will be picked up. Unfortunately the test is not accurate and was not originally meant as a diagnostic. There are false positives. Another problem has been with putting covid down as death rate if tested before died even if person happened to die falling out of a plane!

As far as no flu? Well not really. Difficult to tell difference between flu and covid? Flu just doesn't disappear. Huge amounts of people die from the flu every year, including children. People don't realise just how many because we are not continually bombarded with death rates.

We now know who is vulnerable to this virus. Very sadly I'm afraid most of those were in care homes and in hospitals. According to ONS there was a very mild flu season before covid. Unfortunately all those poor souls who would have been taken from that succumbed to the virus (I believe).

As I've said before. It is not the well off who are going to be badly affected by lock downs, it is the poor, disabled and infirm. Some of these enforcements happening right now smack of another more dangerous time. Be careful what you wish for. An elderly couple were reported round here for seeing their grandchild on his birthday. Disgusting. Might be the last time they see that child.

wishbone profile image
wishbone in reply to

Hiya Nettie, err I mean Lottie. :-)

While the NHS may not have been overwhelmed by covid it certainly could not cope, otherwise there would be have been no need to have cancelled all those operations, monitoring, testing and proper treatments for cancer and the other issues you speak of.

From what I can gather testing is not going according to plan to put it mildly, and will be even more ineffective as the number of infections increase. As for these new treatments, while they may help some people they are nowhere near being a panacea and I doubt very much if they will do much for people with serious underlying health conditions if infected. Besides, it's not only the old and former shielders who are being hospitalised but those who are only mildly at risk as well, plus others who fall seriously ill for no apparent reason and I'm already hearing of hospitals coming under pressure in high risk areas, including mine. If the predictions from Sage are to be believed, and I see no reason why not, then things are looking far from clever as winter approaches.

I've read the Barrington report, which makes no bones about being in favour of herd immunity with or without a vaccine. Not a good idea at the best of times in my books and definitely not if the lastest findings are accurate of how short lived immunity to covid is....6 months max or something like that. There are so many different papers and opinions on what the best course of action is to tackle covid that you can either stick a pin in one and hope for the best, or pick one that aligns with your own opinion. Sorry, but I prefer to be safe than sorry and if harsh measures are needed to try to keep the NHS going then so be it, because if it is overwhelmed then we really will be in big trouble.

in reply to wishbone

Good luck.

Sage are liars. So too the government I'm afraid. If people think lockdown for 4 weeks is actually going to work, and remain 4 weeks ...they are dreaming. Lockdowns do not work. The WHO have vigorously argued against it. The government has consistently lied to us.

People seem totally incapable of seeing the bigger picture here. As for the hospitals, most were empty. GPs have pretty much closed their doors. Good luck getting treatment any time soon.

I for one hope heads will roll for this.

We are heading for a stasi state, mass unemployment and poverty on a global scale. Not forgetting civil unrest. Already happening all over the place. Yup... lockdown is working for sure. Herds of people out on the streets fighting for the right to feed their families. And then the government will blame the people.

Horrifying. I despair. All I can do is sit back and watch.

I will say no more on this. It angers me.

Look after yourself.

Something is telling me that you and me are not going to agree on a few things here. :-)

For a start I don't believe Sage are liars as such, but have certainly made mistakes, one of them being to bend too easily under pressure to tow the government line, at least in the past, but it does seem as if they are finally acting more independantly now. The last thing any government wants, especially this particular one, is to further damage the economy by introducing stronger measures so they must be resigned, rather reluctantly I suspect, to Sage's prediction that things are looking pretty grim if further action is not taken soon. I can't see a future so called lockdown being as severe as the last one and how anyone can say that failed to do what was intended I really don't know. It was lockdown being relaxed too quickly that was mainly to blame for the virus kicking off again in such a big way along with people being too pig headed to take simple precautions. Just what did government expect to happen when they opened schools, unis, pubs, allowed this and allowed that over a period of a few weeks has got me beat! It's a highly contageous virus for god's sake...increase human contact opportunities and covid will get right back to doing what it does.

One thing we do agree on, is a mistrust of government though from different tangents. I don't think there's a bigger cynic and critic of governments on this board than me, until you returned that is! ;-) lol

I absolutely respect your views, and what's more would defend to the hilt your right to have them. I just respectfully disagree with them. 😁

As a side note. We do still thankfully have the freedom of information act at our disposal. It is entirely possible to check out what's going on with your own health trust. It's there for all to enquire about should they have the energy, time, or indeed inclination.

Yes I do still roam the countryside with the dawg, perhaps not with the same pizazz as before. Usually involves a considerable amount of swearing!

Trouble seems to be....all the so called stasi states are doing well because their citizens know there will be serious consequences if they buck the system...whereas here...apart from a few halfhearted attempts at issuing fines......those who do not comply just wave two fingers at authority...& could possibly infect you & me....or not...but I go along with taking the advised precautions....so I won’t be throwing a party with my Sparklers on 5th.......but I bet a lot will.

Look at the behaviour....of oldies & youngsters ....who were dancing & drinking in the Nottinghamshire streets the other evening.

Look after Number One...because too many people are too keen not to conform just because they can..........with no consequence to themselves.

in reply to AgedCrone

I remember history. Not keen to be honest. Is that what you really want?

Lockdowns do not work. History has proven this hence the pandemic bill. Has everyone forgotten what happened with Ebola?

I'm sorry to disagree with you AgedCrone. But no good is going to come of this. And it will not end in 4 weeks. No. It will go on and on and on.

AgedCrone profile image

I remember history too LB.....My father died in World War II so that we speak English now not German....I certainly don’t want to live in a stasi/nazi state ...but what we have here now is not working. ...And I agree with you it will not end after four weeks .....it will not even end after four months if we carry on as we are now.

I wasn’t saying I agree lockdown is the way to go....I don’t know what would’ve been the best way to go and obviously neither does the government ...nor do the governments in most of Europe, nor the USA.

We don’t know what suggestions the scientists put forward & have been ignored to do we?

I was just saying if a different attitude had been taken at the beginning and people who refused to obey the rules were sanctioned in a way that hit a nerve ....ie the pocket.....it might have got across to them how serious the situation is .....there are still some who don’t believe the virus is particularly dangerous......what other reason can there be for the downright dangerous behaviour we are seeing in the streets? Are those people just stupid?

There are many people who still don’t believe Covid19 is spread by breathing in minuscule droplets expelled from the mouths & noses of those carrying the virus...so they refuse to wear masks & distance......and they probably don’t wash their hands that touch all the vegetables and fruit in the supermarket either!

Tbh...Until everybody is so darn scared they will do as they are asked,I can’t see everybody obeying the rules.... and where will that leave us?

Chipping in a bit late in the day.....nightingale hospitals were not properly used because of lack of staff. Had they been able to be used better, then normal NHS services would not have been scuppered. So the NHS was not overwhelmed in terms of covid patients lying on trolleys in the car park, but it could ‘t cope. And there are now lots of staff talking about having horrible after effects, a bit like PTSD as it was all so stressful.

in reply to helixhelix

Agree he ..The army medics could be used most are very highly qualified especially in ICU. These would help staff the nightingales and then leave the hospitals for those suffering from anything other than covid.

in reply to helixhelix

I remain a wee bit sceptical about this, though I'm more than happy to be proved wrong.

I well remember my utter despair and disgust at a family member being denied treatment whilst my local GP surgery staff were posting themselves dancing on Facebook. Quite a bit of that going on. I thought to myself at the time... pandemic...really? Whilst respecting of course the hard work of some individuals.

I guess we shall see what all comes out in the wash. I have a sneaking suspicion this will be known as the year if the collossal cock up! And lessons will of course be learned. Not!

I think it would be harsh on the very elderly, the young and those who have to go out to work to earn enough to pay bills and put food on table. Shielding could be brought back so that those who have to work otherwise are protected.

The rest, who are in receipt of good pensions with no financial worries, I think should be keeping out of the way and if going out, be absolutely responsible and follow all the obvious rules about masks, hand washing etc. The problem is that I know people who are older than me and are not struggling at all financially who think it’s their right to go out and about unmasked and have coffee mornings in cafes etc, visitors, carry on as usual and then blame the poor and the young for being the spreaders. So I don’t really think another full lockdown will do much more than send lots of young people and those of working age over the edge financially and in every way.

I tend to trust Prof Devi Sridhar and it’s just such a shame that a lot of what she predicts comes to pass eg people going on holidays abroad once the pandemic here started to ease up at the end of lockdown, bringing home a Spanish or other strain of Covid. Why do people think they have a right to go on holiday abroad? Due to my health and lack of funds I haven’t been able to go abroad for years or even go on staycations. It’s not just the young or the poor who are super spreaders - it’s the entitled!

I'm in South East and IF the stats. are to be believed we still have relatively low transmission rates, if that is true yes a lockdown will help. I think its long overdue and might make it easier for the police to enforce the rules. Thats not saying I like it but it is clearly vital to keep the rates down to protect the NHS. I know it's awful but as so many don't wear masks or face shields I also would say all must, no exceptions, no excuses, no lanyards, sorry but if you can't wear a mask use a shield. I wonder how many are suffering because it appears some GP's are hiding behind a Covid wall they should return to practice now as have dentists etc. done. Oh well we wait and see, just my luck I've booked a hair appointment for Thursday ! lol

Nothing will change for me either, classed as a key worker as I work in a supermarket. I think hospitality is the safest place to be with temperature and details being taken, shops are just a free for all. I am so fed up of speaking politely to customers who are not wearing masks and getting abuse back, and reminding them of social distancing because they think wearing a mask means they are safe... I can mix with over a 100 different customers daily but cannot see family or friends it doesn't seem fair but I adhere to the rules....but it has been bitter sweet for me,for all the hassle I go through in a day I know I have got a pay packet at the end of the month......I do feel for all the people who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own, there must be a better way to help them

This is not going to go well. There is already mass civil unrest in places. People are really suffering. I fear there will be an uprising.

Well things are not changing much .. shielders get no support.. I should have been a Gp safest job around.

I had to return my sharps bin to GPs last week. Ring a bell intercom communication. Letter or prescription in a special letter box sharps bins in s rotation window. Mine are still doing telephone consultations sending pictures if required not even a video consultation.

KB47 profile image

It doesn't make any difference to me as far as the Lockdown goes. I've been housebound for nearly 10 years.

Have numerous health problems that makes me cry with the pain some day's.

My Hubby is my Carer, he does everything for me, the cooking, cleaning, shopping etc. He's not well himself. Hes waiting for Abdominal Surgery, but the Consultant that he saw last week told him that because of the Virus, he's probably having to wait a 12 month, unless of course he gets rushed in as an Emergency. Then they would have to do the operation the same day.

I can't ever see this Virus being beaten.

Listening to the idiots on the TV,

Yes there's a Lockdown ,No it's been lifted. England is on Lockdown again, this time for a month. Balderdash. The school's and Universities are staying open. Half of the Pupils are grown up. We have the High School in the Lane at the end of our road. After School is finished for the day. A lot of the Pupils have to pass our house to go home. Some of the Boys are kissing their Girlfriends etc. Not many wearing Masks and certainly no self distancing. What use is the Lockdown gonna be doing while all this is going on. I feel so sorry for the small businesses, that have had to close again. How much longer can they keep going like this. Not long methinks.

I can't see why they are putting a month long Lockdown in London, but leaving the school's etc open. Why are they prioritising Education, because the way things are going there won't be anyone left to be going to School.

It's not really a Lockdown, is it.?? .

Cocked up as usual.

I hope that I haven't offended anyone ,because we all have our own opinions

Our GPs have gone into hiding.

Well mine have anyway. I had Abdominal Surgery 8 weeks ago. 4 weeks after surgery I was having problems. Went to my GP . I saw the Practice Nurse, she wasn't sure what to do, so she textd the Doctor that was in the next room.

Nope the Doctor wouldn't come in to see me. The Practice Nurse said to me,

( Glo I'm so sorry, it's the same all the time). She did what she could for me, then my Hubby took me back home.

I really am beginning to feel depressed as to what the future holds for us all. I don't think that they are ever going to beat this Virus. Only time will tell.

My Hubby and Kids I worry about the most. Our Little Great Granddaughter

AVA👸 have just got over the Covid 19 🙏.Now I worry about the rest of my Family. 🤔

I know! And hilariously, the people that ignored the rules are now blaming the government for a lockdown. Get a mirror! They’re responsible for this. They’re responsible for job losses and closures now. They’re responsible for families unable to see each other. Makes me very cross.

We are a remote virtual reception. So if you’re calling a restaurant or a hotel to book, you may reach us. We work in two areas, hospitality and healthcare across the UK. We do have a few clients in Oz and one in Switzerland too. . It looks like our clinics will remain open (at the minute anyway), but we’ve obviously lost all the hotels and restaurants yet again.

Hey ho. Better get my ‘boss’ hat on this morning and have a team meeting. Hate it as it makes everyone so twitchy. But, I have the best team in the world.

Neonkittie17 profile image
Neonkittie17 in reply to HappykindaGal

Yes HKG, they need a flipping huge mirror as so many are in denial .. these flouters .. and It’s beyond belief they are complaining re lockdown when so many have contributed towards it. We have neighbours who pay lip service to the government’s ”guidelines” .. they have had people staying over and many BBQs. Different families together in a small place, then all going inside and it has been like that on and off since March. Next door haven’t bothered to adjust one iota. It takes effort to be responsible and help others in all of this. Yes the flouters are indeed responsible for all you said and more .. and they make many people worried about going out (and I don’t mean just vulnerable people) as many of the non maskers outside I’ve noticed want to get close up to others. I get it that people may be lonely but endangering someone is another thing.

I do recall now about the virtual reception as it’s quite different and made me take notice when you posted about this some time ago. Can understand totally how you’ve lost a huge part with many of the hotels/restaurants closing. 😑 I hope that you can somehow get through this again and dig deep and keep your team going. 💗

I meant that lockdown should have started at half term. I also agree that it is senseless to send teenagers especially out and about circulating the virus in schools. I have a child in lower sixth and one at university. I had Covid in March, a pulmonary embolism in April, pneumonia, numerous chest infections, pluerisy, am still very unwell and am scared as it seems that you can get it again. If I got it right now I think it would kill me. My RA is off the scale at the moment on top of low oxygen levels, fast heart rate, severe fatigue, headaches, brain fog, chest pains etc etc. The media need to make more of the fact that the virus not only kills, it leaves people with major ongoing problems some of which can be life threatening.

I was shielding from May officially as GP said I didn’t need to at first but someone must have looked at my records and realised I should be shielding. Fortunately for them I took the advice of rheumatology who sent a letter to shield. I found it hard as I had no one to shop for me so had no choice but to go out and shop. I couldn’t get any priority slots either as not on the register for 6 weeks.

I have mainly stayed at home for the last 7/8 months so it’s starting to get me down although not someone who usually suffer with mental health problems.

Not pleasant but necessary. This should have been done a month ago. But. of course our PM delayed and hasn't taken the advice of the medics. It's unfortunate that the hospitality industry is suffering.

Where pubs are concerned, they have always encouraged customers to drink, many to excess. That results in bad behaviour during, and after hours, which in itself uses police and NHS resources, for which we pay. I have a friend who is a security guard and, what he tells me would make your hair curl.

Issue with hospitality closing isn’t just the hotels and restaurants themselves. It’s a whole supply chain. Food suppliers, growers, web designers, digital marketers, marketing companies, my company (room and table bookers). It’s a whole line of carnage behind it.
