I have a meeting with my boss, HR and my uni or rep today. I have submitted a flexible working request to reduce my hours. I have given them a proposal about finishing at 3pm so I can be gone much earlier in the evening and also be with my daughter who needs some support due to Her learning needs. She’s only 8 and I’m a single parent. I find that when I work till 5, and not get home till 6ish, the evening is such a rush, I’m stressed and tired myself and the quality of our time together is poor. I also find that I’m so fatigued that I don’t cook, eat snacks and quick food and just feel awful.
I have sent my employers the guide produced by NRAS....... any advice on how I can support my case further? They will want to ensure that the business isn’t affected and that I can still fulfil by role.
Thank you. X

I'm not sure, but could citizens advice help you out ?
You might want to focus on how you would be productive finishing at 3 instead of 5 pm, less fatigued, improved wellbeing, less sick time, fewer flares (?), better work / life balance.
By finishing at 3 you would still be working 'core hours'.
Take a look at the disability equality act that talks about reasonable adjustments. It will help you and your employer understand your legal rights. Good luck 😉
Hi Hazel, I hope your meeting went okay today? So sorry for the late reply. Have you had an occupational health assessment through work too as the occupational health team can recommend changes to your working pattern too. Great that you NRAS resources and help on board too and the Union. Do let us know how things go for you won’t you? I had an occupational health assessment and they recommended changes in my working patterns and times and HR and my manager are very supportive of this alongside the other recommendations. Really hope your meeting was a positive one for you.
Although I decided to take medical retirement in the end my go and rheumatologist gave me reports on how changes in my working environment would help me manage my work better ie reduced hours, frequency of breaks, aids to help etc and as mentioned before occupational assessments.
Reasonable adjustments are needed and I work core hours before furlough and updated them if going through a rough patch so they could adjust as things were moving along as we all know we have good days and bad days.
I think what you are doing is showing due care fr you but also work.
