Hello all? I have a trivial question! I’ve had a big hand and wrist op and have severe ra and my hands and wrists are weak. I’ve always used a rotating dryer brush by babyliss but find this too heavy now. Has anyone tried the Dyson dryers/stylers or any other make and found them good? I’ve heard mixed reviews about how difficult it is to change the attachments and they are so expensive.
Thanks in anticipation 🙏

I've got a Dyson hairdryer and it feels light because the motor is in the handle. They come with several attachments which are magnetic so just go on easily but best reason for buying is they are fast, don't create frizz and are just great. Worth every penny.
My right hand only and it's the standard grey one, now 3 years old. But I'm fussy about my hair so bought one because the hairdresser said try mine as they now have a professional model. So impressed I bought one. They are lighter and if you go to say John Lewis they'll have a stand with them on so you can pick up. I've also got GHD straighteners which I use occasionally to curl hair for shaggy look which are good and I think safer as have very thick hair. Hope that helps.
Heavy to one is light to another. Try weighing what you have, then check the weight of those on offer! I would guess the cheaper they are the lighter they would be?
It's apparently where the motor is, so Dyson's is in the handle hence easier to balance and feels lighter. I just love it. So fast to dry my thick hair and its never makes it fly away.
I think debjw is looking for a rotating dryer/styler not just a hairdryer?
I think I have the Babyliss one she has & it is lighter than the Dyson styler..but I don’t know about the regular Dyson hair dryer.
I can’t used anything heavy with my hands so I put a regular house blow heater on the kitchen worktop…& sit in front of it with a hair brush…then to finish styling I bought a £20 non rotating very light hot blower brush from Amazon….which is handy for a freshen up for between hair washes.
That sounds like a Bob Mortimer doing his own dental filling sitting on the worktop !lol I'd have a job especially in my kitchen the blower is built into the bottom plinth in the kitchen. I'd have a lay down dryer??? You'd think by now some clever geek would have come up with some better gadgets to help people with poor grip. lol x
I don’t sit on the work top….the blow heater does!😂Another system since I had an airconditioning unit installed that blows hot air is to sit in front if that ..but my hair is like baby,s hair,…..so a slow walk in the sunshine does the job!
I have a Dyson hairdryer and got it partly because it was light to my knackered wrists, the attachments are very easy to remove as they’re magnetic. I have tried my daughters Dyson air wrap before choosing to buy one but I found it hard to use because of the near fusion of my wrists I struggled to get the angle right and it just got me cross and hair a mess ( well more of mess than it usually is ) I would ask among friends and family to see if anyone will lend you theirs to have a go as it is a big expense if it doesn’t work for you. If you’re in the east of Cambs you can try mine out ☺️
it’s the first one that came out I think, I have had it a long time, they may be even lighter now. If you can get to John Lewis or Currys then you can try them out for weight. 🤞🏻
If you look on QVC, they have 9 Dyson Hairdryers - you can buy one, use it for 60 days, then return it for a full refund except postage if it doesn’t suit you.
You can usually buy their items on 4 easy monthly payments too.
I treated myself to a Dyson in 2020 when I broke both bones in my wrist. It is lighter and better balanced than a lot of dryers I’ve had in the past, I love it. The attachments on mine are magnetic and are very easy to change over.
My hairdresser has one of the new Dyson professional drivers - I joked that it looks like a TellyTubbies speaking tube. That is seriously lightweight, no way I could ever justify it though.
My daughter has the new Dyson brush dryer, she loves it but I find it too heavy as my wrists are not good. The GHD straighteners are fine and my cheap hairdryer is good, I find the GHD hairdryer too heavy as well.
I've just swapped my trusty GHD for a Dyson because of the weight issue. It's a blue/gold one. My hairdresser had bought one and let me hold it and it's a featherweight in comparison. She bought hers as a renovated second hand. As my hair curls, when allowed, I've also had it cut shorter so that if things are difficult I let it run riot.
I love the blue and gold colour. I’d love to have curly hair too, it’s funny but I think curly hair is something that appeals much more when you get older.
I've spent my life wishing for straight hair that doesn't frizz, stays 'done' and doesn't make me look like a manic sheep. Given that I'm 70 there's no chance of change. We never like what we've got, do we?
Alas, I’m one of those people who no matter how good my hairdresser or how much I’ve spent I just never get that ‘done’ look. Mine just goes straight and flat and I realise now why it was the thing for older ladies to have a shampoo and set every week when I was growing up. One of my best friends is my can of dry shampoo to perk things up between washing sessions.
There’s been a lot of press coverage about Aldi’s Visage ionic hairdryer being a real dupe of the Dyson and at £14.99 worth a try.
However it’s a product that comes and goes in stock (last batch was in August) BUT there are many available on eBay - canny shoppers buy them up when they come in, to sell later for around double the price - even at £30 it’s still a bargain!
Also, apparently the best budget Airwrap dupe is the Babyliss Hydro-Fusion Anti-Frizz 4-in-1 Hair Dryer Brush.
Sorry can't help on that as I can't use an hairdryer or tongs etc anymore. But I am sure you will find some suggestions on here. I have a mobile hairdresser calls to the house but she is in her 80s so may need to find other option in the not too distant future.
I have difficulty with my hands due to RA and I have been using a Dyson Airwrap for a couple years and found it to be one of the best investments I’ve ever made. So much so that I bought my daughter one too. I was a hairdresser for 32 years and I wish I had it then!
I’ve a couple of Dysons, both were gifts from my hubby and the original Supersonic is really excellent. I don’t feel it’s too heavy but to some it might not feel the lightest of hairdryers. . I have mid length layered hair and it dries mine in 4 minutes! It doesn’t feel like a huge blast as such like you’re in a wind tunnel 😜 and it is it’s digital motor and air flow that makes it so speedy and effective. I couldn’t be without mine now. 🩷
