Until it has proved it is going to work correctly......it will get nowhere near my phone...if it works as well as the Apps in use all around the world .....I’ll sign up!

It's working

But is it working correctly?...I have just been watching a computer expert working on track& trace, & she was explaining that Bluetooth is not exact enough.....because it might be able to tell where you are ....but it can’t tell whether you’re on the bus outside Sainsbury’s or in the queue in Sainsbury’s ......so it may end up isolating people who are just going past on the bus and missing the cv+ one who was standing in the supermarket queue......I missed the bit about the part of the programme where it said on the UK App...how long your phone is supposed to connect with phone of the person reported as being cv+.

So....Phone at home till it’s sorted...I don’t particularly want to go out anywhere ...but I don’t want to be quarantined unnecessarily In case I do want to go somewhere .....

If you look on this website, about halfway down there is a diagram which shows how the app works out when to send a ‘stay at home ‘ alert.

I don’t even know where my mobile phone is-I only ever use it when I’m abroad!

That's a great website great explanations of how long and how near people and I really like the bit, if you are near the same person several times you will be alerted too. Very clever .

AC It triggers the key if you’re there for 5 minutes or more. Going past someone on a bus at 2metres won’t trigger it. I’m going to use it for checking in places, that’s helpful. The rest we will wait and see 😊

It has a qr code too so that if you go in a shop or cafe etc now by law they have to track you, so that's useful especially if it goes on longer

Yes allanah I will use it for that, much better than signing in everywhere 😊

Guess I will be getting out my sticky name/address labels to get into Aldi then?

Just download the app, much easier and no touching.

I will when I find my phone......

Its 2metres for 15minutes

It’s 15 minutes for logging but 5 minutes for exchanging keys.

Keys?

KittyJ in reply to allanah

To connect the phones. I’ve complicated things, it’s the logging that matters after 15 minutes 😊

Does it include shops?

It doesnt matter where you are. Keep your phone on you and contact tracing on when you are out. If you have been in contact for 15 mins less than 5 metres from someone who tests positive they will let you know.

In theory these possible recently infectious people can isolate to protect the more vulnerable and aged people who are at higher risk of hospitalization due to covid 19. A high uptake is helpful and most people I know whose phones are capable of using this app have downloaded it.

I had a " meaningful contact "with 2 people even this morning at my doctors , the practice next door had had covid, so if my contacts today test positive in the next week I will be told .

Yes...I do understand the system.....it’s just the system the UK is using I am not too sure of.....especially as it is only available on smart phones. I wonder how many people in the 70+ age group & are supposedly most vulnerable have one of those?

It also....as far as I have read ......doesn’t say where you were when the alert was set off....you are just supposed to start self isolating as soon as you get the alert.

If it does work as hoped ....maybe now the Chancellor has put in place a system whereby people who do have to quarantine for 14 days will be given some financial support, it will have more chance of working.

But human nature being what it is - if someone on a very low wage is expected to go without that wage just because he “might” have been close enough to somebody who is CV positive to become infected.... .....then it’s pie in the sky to expect that to happen.

Another point ....is the majority of countries where other track & trace systems are working successfully....are in the east....where legal penalties are real....not just threats.

I sincerely hope our system is very successful......we need all the help available to control Covid....but I’m in the wait & see queue.

Hubby still trying to update my phone to be able to upload the app - my phone is refusing to cooperate 😬🤪

Will use it if I can ever get it loaded! 😊

Apparently a lot of people are all trying to upload it, and it needs to be a smart phone but tgats just what I heard on our local news

I have the correct phone but it’s not running the most up to date iOS but it keeps failing to even get that uploaded (maybe as everyone else is 😬)

Ye could be, that is what the local news said! That's good and helpful there will be a high takeup.

Yep smart phones only, not tablets or watches or any other gizmos....even the age of your phone will depend if you can download it.

This below from the “How can people access the App?”

“The handsets must have Android 6.0 (released in 2015) or iOS 13.5 (released in May 2020) and Bluetooth 4.0 or higher.

That excludes the iPhone 6 and older versions of Apple‘s hand sets.

And some of the latest Huawei handsets are excluded.

Users must confirm they are over 16 to get started”

So I guess that will exclude a fair number of people.

I wonder if anybody did a survey has to how old the average mobile phone is?
