An article about it...

“That said, the same journal has published more promising evidence for the anti-inflammatory qualities of moringa extract, which early studies suggest may be more potent than last year’s darling, turmeric. Moringa contains the full complement of amino acids, and is a good source of vitamins C and A, and various minerals – but with the dried powder on sale for £40 a kilo, at the moment it’s hard to recommend it over a basketful of fresh produce at one-10th of the price.

If you are curious, you’ll find fresh moringa leaves and seedpods, sold under a variety of names including “drumstick”, in Indian and African grocers, and the powders online or in health food shops – look for fair-trade versions. You could stir a little of the latter into a smoothie to try to disguise its flavour (politely described as “earthy”), but you’re more likely to enjoy a curry made with the more spinachy fresh leaves or okra-like pods.

Is moringa a superfood? If you live in an arid environment with little access to fresh greens, then very probably. Until further research is done, however, most of us would probably be better off with a bag of kale.”

It can affect how things are processed by your liver, so if you have any problems with that with your current medication, best avoided.

It looks early days for the evidence of benefit and a preliminary look suggests that someone having a good balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables probably doesn't need it.

If you are on R.A. drugs it really is best just to let them do their job.

At you next appointment run it past you rheumy nurse.

I do fine on a good healthy diet & I don’t want to chance adding anything that might upset the balance.

Thanks ! If you don’t mind can I ask what med are you taking for arthritis? How long ? I’ve taking methotrexate for 5 weeks now not really seeing any improvement.

I was diagnosed 20+ years ago......I’m afraid 5 weeks is a bit soon to expect a resultfrom Mtx ...I think it took me a good 3 months .........then it was great ...I was on it for about 7 years with no problems ...then one day it just stopped working.

I’ve been on a Biologic now since 2016.

On the whole.....RA drugs are not fast working...but once you find the right one, it all falls into place,

Give the Mtx another few week....if you are in a lot of pain ask your rheumy nurse to suggest which painkiller to try.

Thank you so much 😊 I will definitely continue to take methotrexate and have patience for the results. I’m taking meloxicam for pain it’s helping me a bit . Hope you’re doing well

Hiya pam_k, welcome. Can I suggest you don't take anything for your RD that isn't prescribed or recommended by your Rheumy or GP, or other medical professional for the mo. You see being newly diagnosed & new to MTX anything, even 'natural' supplements, including herbal remedies, may sway your blood test results. As oldtimer pointed out, moringa is processed through the liver, so is MTX. This could affect your liver values & in turn could cause concern that MTX is causing liver issues when in fact it may not be if you've not discussed taking this particular supplement with your Rheumy. Actually it's best & usually advised not to take anything other than your prescribed meds when newly diagnosed to ensure that a true response is shown in your blood test results.

It does seem to be an expensive way of getting the vitamins & minerals which could be provided through veg. The Mediterranean diet is recommended for us, lots of vitamin & mineral rich produce in that, might be worth looking into?

Thank you so much for your advice i will try to eat right and kick arthritis ass lol I do get very sad at times as I’m only 30 and can’t workout at the gym how I used too 😞 but it is what it is I just need to suck it in and live with it . Keeping it positive . I love this site so much coz everyone here knows and understands the pain .

The way I look at it .....you play by the rules now......then when your drugs start working you will be able to slowly start getting back to the gym....but not persevering with your treatment early on seems to set a pattern.

I do know it’s no fun being in such pain you can hardly move...especially at your age...but if you can dig deep now & persevere you will hopefully be one of the lucky ones who do find a drug to suit you pretty soon.
