Well! As of midnight last night Preston is under strict measures because of rising covid infection. I understand that this has to happen and I am pleased it is happening because something has to be done. On saying that it doesn't mean I am not disappointed that I can't see my family in the garden now. I hadn't been out of the garden for 17 weeks and then started to dip my toe in the water taking little walks with my husband and going for drives but not going near anyone. We live three miles from Preston in a lovely, leafy suburb but we are included because of the postcode. I can still have my brother in the garden because we are his bubble but I do feel like my Christmas present has just been taken from me. I just hope that things improve quickly but being very pragmatic I feel things will get worse before they get better. x
Almost back to square one.: Well! As of midnight last... - NRAS
Almost back to square one.
The local lockdowns are just a reminder of how the virus hasn't gone away and the vigilance required by us all to keep the spread as low as it can be.
I was out yesterday for a carry out coffee, most people were mindful of social distancing but some didn't seem to bother, standing too close, no masks and so on. It is quite alarming.
I’m afraid that is a very common problem. I was in B&Q the other day forget the arrow markings nobody took a blind but if notice reaching across to get things off the shelves while hardly anyone wearing masks. According to the government statistics hardly a rise of covid cases since lockdown eased in July... I must be living on another planet then .....
I wonder how long it will take the Numpties - who are bleating it’s not fair - to get it through their skulls....that until they do start to “get it” - lockdowns & quarantining will continue & possibly get more stringent?
I am very weary of the non compliance of others to abide by 3 very easy, non invasive instructions to keep us all safe...physical distance, hand washing and masks, many who cannot wear a mask could use a visor.
I understand the pluses and negatives of using masks or visors, using both, using none.
As for the Aberdeen football situation...there are no words...
I popped out yesterday to local shop.....forgot mask...feeling a right idiot I took my scarf from around my neck & tied it round my face....nobody turned a hair!
The scarf was probably as effective as many masks.
We know it's necessary but damn
I'm in Kirklees and been under the same measures for a couple of weeks.
No one is taking any notice at all. Been told you can go to the pub but not to a friends or families garden. Basically been told you can mingle with strangers but no family as long as there's a card reader.
I understand it's because your more likely to get close to friends and family than strangers. But I can understand why people are ignoring it....
Yes it’s inevitable and I live in the West coast of Scotland and it’s really busy, also there are some ignorant people in our society, stay safe xxx
I'm in the North West too and it is concerning as I have said in previous posts that not only are we spiking in various parts of Lancashire(the R rate is rising), but here we are due in a few weeks thousands of students, their families and others to descend upon us from all over the country. As yet we are hanging on in this area as I type to not be under the restrictions, whilst nearby the restrictions are now in place. Again I'm aware that Preston has a massive uni and have seen the changes it was making prior to Covid so again what will be the measures in respect of amounts of students for this years intake there. By the way just to clarify I don't have a thing about students...it's just the issue of large numbers of people migrating from lots of different areas and possibly other countries, their situations, circumstances, descending upon an area which has a population which has high numbers of elderly and vulnerable residents residing there. Just to balance this out is amazes me to hear of friends anxieties rising as they tell me people in the shops are not adhering to distancing, the arrows or makings are ignored, they feel like it's a free for all and no one appears to say anything to address this. So business as usual.....and the virus is no doubt saying the same I'm afraid.
Several Scottish Universities are having no f2f teaching or campus activities until a review in January 2021. Everything is online.
Has the University near you decided to teach f2f ?
We have heard nothing from the uni and the landlords of the houses are going ahead and clearing out the houses they rent. Which they have to do anyway as you see many filled skips in the town at this time of the year and parents with their fledglings driving and walking around town. So weather F2F has been mooted no one appears to know. I realise how important education is but hope they can find a way to do this in a way which doesn't have the capacity to accelerate the virus in this area.
I live in Greater Manchester so these restrictions have been in place for us since last Thursday and have been extended to who knows when. I really wouldn’t mind so much if everyone followed the rules but so many people are just not listening at all which will keep this happening more and more sadly and for longer. It’s my birthday next Friday but will be spending it with my cat and no other plans. I can make up for it next year though. I just wish others would follow the rules so we could stop the cases increasing daily.
Absolutely. I couldn't agree more. x
I feel your pain, I live in Aberdeen and having only just got out of Lockdown could not believe this.
What the press are not reporting is that the original spreader for our outbreak was a french guy, he flew into Manchester and proceeded to get a bus to Aberdeen. He was due to go offshore, got thermometer checked at the heliport was refused to go offshore, tested for Covid and told to isolate for 7 days he was showing symptoms. But no he thought he would go for a drink. Met in with a bunch of guys on a stag party and they went on a massive pub crawl. He obviously infected many people, these people did not know and then went to their families and other pubs, golf clubs etc. Six days later the football started back Aberdeen v Rangers. Since the fans could not go to the stadium, next best thing they went to the pubs to watch it on the big screens. Seemingly it was a nightmare, ‘drinks in and wits out‘ and then the singing started.
Some of the pubs are definitely to blame for letting it get out of hand, In fact there have been very blatant posts on social media blaming some of the pubs including the one that the media reported on where the Aberdeen players were, and yes local people were far too complacent (before this we had very few cases in Aberdeen, very few people knew anyone who it had affected) and I think with Scotland’s strict rules (after all we only just got the pubs opened the weekend of the french guy). Now bang everything is shut again, my GP more or less I said I need to shield again. Goodness you are not even allowed to visit a doctors surgery in Scotland yet. I guess we just have to suck it up, but it gets you mad when you see the press reporting massive crowds on a beach. I have only been out a handful of times, and two of those were emergency appointments to my rheumatologist. I managed to get to the hairdresser, who was a star and made sure their was only me and her in the shop at the time with full PPE.
Finally, I think we are in this for the long haul until a vaccine is available. I really wonder how they will give the flu vaccines since you are not allowed in the surgery!
I absolutely agree. They will have to have tents outside on the car parks. There will be far too many people to deal with. x
