Psoriatic Arthritis: What Immunosuppressants Help to Control Both Psoriasis and Arthritis? I'm New Here. :-)

I was prescribed Humira for Psoriasis by my dermatologist and it worked for a while and then seemed to stop. Derm recommended more topical Triamcinolone and wait out the flare. My rheumatologist did blood work that showed I had developed an immunity to Humira and prescribed Enbrel for Psoriatic Arthritis, which had an opposite effect: not helpful controlling Psoriasis, but wonderful for managing pain, at first. Four months on Enbrel and I have gained 20 pounds (!!!!) despite eating healthily and no change in exercise habits (moderate). Pain has increased, probably due to rapid weight gain. Anyone having better luck with their immunosuppressant therapy?

Hi Linda-5502,

I am so glad for you that you have found a medication that helps PsA. I hope that they are able to find something to relieve RA.

My ANA is positive, so I have at least one other autoimmune disease. My money is on RA and Lupus since I have nearly all the symptoms of both.

One step at a time, I suppose.

Thank you for the tip about Tocifitnab. I will speak with my rheum.

Hi Whaleroad,

I'm sorry to hear Humira stopped working for you. Darn this Covid 19!! I got my lab work off my patient portal, and the test said "miscellaneous testing", not very helpful. I copied the results for you; maybe you can made more sense of this than I can.

Thank you so much for the information. My rheum said that Enbrel shouldnt be making me gain weight, but I knew it was to blame. I appreciate the confirmation.

I hope you are able to get on a prescription that helps you manage your pain. I will ask my rheum about Cosentyx, sooner than later, because I just received a letter from my health insurance that Enbrel will no longer be covered after March, 2021. I suppose I can't blame them since it costs $7000/month in my part of the USA.
