If you put that into the search box and filter for NRAS then it will come up with previous posts about it 😊

Hello there I have total loss of height between L5 and S1 so I have Double Sciattica as the remants of the disc are broken up around the nerve bundles for my legs and also causes pain in back itself. I am 62 yrs and in my youth used to move a couple of tons of steel a day by hand, which is why my back is knackered.

I have been on MST continus for about 3 Years now starting with a low dose at 20mg and am now on 30 mg with ordinary 10mg tablets of Morphine sulphate for breakthrough pain (when its still really bad).

There are a number of Known side effects with morphine these are the ones that I get

Itching

I take 2 types of antihistamine (still itchy at times, usually when I have maxed

the dosage)

Nausea

It can make you feel Yech, billious, sick, but thee tablets to stop that, i dont need them anymore as my system has gotten used to the MST

Dry Mouth

Sips of water, I also currently have about a dozen kidney stomnes in various places lol unfortunatley I have one in eacj kidney which are in the kidney tissue itself so will not pass naturally and its asod for a surgeon to get them out wothout causing fair bit of damage to kidneys

Lazy bowel

I take a syrup type laxative called Lactulose, it is very very sweet yech, it has a type of sugar in it that is a non absorbable sugar. I need to watch my weight as no longer active due to spine so I was a bit cautious about taking it. But it doesnt seem to affect my weight so now I use it as an alternative to sugar YAY something posotive so i put it in my morning coffee (only 1 mug a day) I also put some on my porridge (in cold weather) instead of honey or Goldern Syrup which are both high in calories

Blackouts

There are times I would cheerfully blow my head off just to get away from the pain, I pass kidney stones 4 - 6mm and they are supposed to be the most painful thing a human can have.

My back is at least twice as painfull when it is at full on I have taken 100mg of morphine and it was still pretty bad. I have a nephew senior charge nurse on ICU he is nearly 50yrs now and I have spent many an unhappy hour with him trying to work out how best to manage the pain I get lol

There is no point in trying to be totally pain free as its going to make your bodys tolerance to the drug just get quicker than it should so you end up needing more sooner than you have usually. If you have just started taking MST stick to the Docs instructions andd make sure that the first few days you are near a chair or bed as it can affect people in different ways.

Aural halucinations

I have terrible Tinitus, like walking through a wood full of birds as well as high pitched tones that alter in pitch and loudness as I turn my head (just like a bust radio )

With the morphine I can hear bagpipes, I live in Scotland but I was born in Liverpool.

But I do like the pipes so its not totally bad just a nuisance when tryting to sleep at 3 in the morning LOL

MST is great for pain just make sure you are aware of all the other potential side effects so that you can be aware of what you are getting, but most people are fine.

I wish you well and hope the medication will be the answer to your pain.

Itsmekeith my doctor decided to put me on the fentanyl patch. It’s low dose but it is amazing. It’s working great. They also kept me on the oxycodone for the pain as well. I have been able to cut down to 3 a day on them. It’s giving me some life back again. I’m so thankful for that. I’m so sorry you have such horrible pain that is hard to control and with so many side effects. It don’t take much looking around and you find you are not as bad as you think you are. Speaking for me now. I pray things get better for you my friend. Hugs
