Not chocolate covered peanuts, but massage and meditation!!. Has anyone tried or seen the benefits of either for RA?
M&Ms: Not chocolate covered peanuts, but massage and... - NRAS
M&Ms
i do both, i have used meditation for years to relax and I love massages. Every birthday and Christmas I ask for vouchers. They are really really nice and immediately relaxing. However, as much as I love them I haven't found that they give much long term relief for ra. There is another therapy called mindfulness which reports to be good with alleviating pain but I haven't done that yet.
Like the peanut m&ms though, haven't indulged in them for awhile.
meditation - yes. Don't really do it properly now, but its something that can help you take pain down a notch. It won't get rid of pain, but sometimes just dropping it one point on the scale is enough to make it tolerable. There are other ways that you can mentally drop pain a bit as well . I don't think it really matters what technique you use as long as it works for you. Massages I'm not so sure about now. I used to love them, but could never tolerate a firm massage as it just made things worse afterwards. I guess I really only like the very very gentle sensual massages, using nice oils to make my skin feel good. Not as therapy though.
I like a massage it is nice you can specify how firm
Love massage! I alternate each month, one month Swedish massage, the next month, Thai massage. I really believe it is what keeps me functioning. A piece of dark chocolate every day doesn't hurt either!
I'm rubbish at meditation but am grudgingly beginning to accept that even a little bit of stress can rouse my RA - I never realised I was such a sensitive flower! So anything that is genuinely calming surely helps if it's the same for you. x
Hi
Thanks to all for replies, definitely going to give the meditation a go on holiday as it's a treatment on offer and will find a class when I get back
Chocolate peanuts are good though, where did I put that packet?............
