I’ve realised my very soft around the ankle Skechers are probably not the best for longer walks if I’m getting ankle swelling. Wearing tightish gloves is helpful as well.
Any recommendations for ankle/foot support, not too old ladyish trainers/slippers, I’m 53? Or do meds mean these aren’t needed most of the time?

Since RA struck, I have rarely had anything but strong supportive hiking shoes/boots/sandals on my poor feet.
I recently had to purchase ankle supports that can be strapped over socks as my joints were painful and swelling.
Not so bad now that drug infusions are doing their stuff. But support is better than looking pretty.
I wear athletic compression long socks (Amazon) not too tight and I don’t sweat. They are ok under trousers but have not yet found anything attractive for skirts or dresses. A good walking boot is best for ankle support. Orthotics may help ask to be referred there usually is a waiting list .... even longer now thanks to C19.
I think it means your RA is not under control. When I first started my Biologic in January I had 2 weeks of bliss mobility pre RD in feet and ankles. No longer the case so I believe my RA is not under control. My hands are better though.
The most comfortable for me are walking boots. Plenty of room in the toes and good support for the ankle, and I take out the inner liner and put my support insoles in them too.
Quite honestly I don't care what my feet look like!
prescribed orthotics, ankle boots [Pavers have some less sporty ones with velcro], long flight socks, .... i use thai kickboxer ankle upports when i need them.... cheap n cheerful on the internet LOL
My ankles have been starting to swell again and I’m sure it’s because my RD is not as well controlled as it has been (because I’m overdue for my next drug infusion). I can’t walk far anyway so I don’t have the same problem as you. I would have thought some walking boots with ankle support would be best if you’re going for longish walks.
You could look on the Simply Feet website where they have lots of comfy and wide shoes and slippers. I think the Vionic make are brilliant as they have a wonderful insole with arch support. Also the insoles in many shoes are removable if you end up with custom made orthotics.
Vionic are good but not cheap. I like some of Clark’s footware especially the Un and Trigenic ranges. Clark’s trainers are quite young looking. Although these offer good foot support rather than ankle support. Hope you find a solution.
