Tailors Bunion

Hi

Does anyone suffer with bunions? Is it a common feature of RA? I have a tailors bunion, it came on during week 3 of lockdown when the only time i wore shoes was to walk the dog (walking boots always) and to shop.

It is now becoming extremely painful...............

You can buy silicone protective pads, they loop over the little toe. I think eBay does them. They are helpful, till you can see a podiatrist. X

Yup, I have one. Nothing to do with shoes for me, just the way the bones and fat pads have changed so now is under friction. Podiatrist shaves it every six months, and has adjusted my insoles. So need to see a podiatrist as soon as you can. Until then just cushions, and maybe a pumice stone.

Shaves it? it isn't hard skin...the lump under the skin is hard I cant see how he could shave it?

I guess yours is brand new? After a while it ends up causing hard skin/humungous corn to develop over it to protect it, which of course puts more pressure on the bones underneath, so pushes it further out of whack, which cause more hard skin....and so it goes on. My latest insoles seem to have calmed it down for the moment.

I’ve got them on both feet. I don’t find them painful though. I suppose they come from the time when tailors sat cross legged on the floor and that part of their foot rubbed on the floor.

I sometimes get a little callous on one of my feet and I have a little corn shaver blade thing I bought in Boots that I use to take that off which makes it feel better.

I think - well I’m sure - mine was caused by friction - rubbing to hard and too long to remove hard skin from below my little toes 😟

A good podiatrist will sort you out.

I have both bunions and bunionettes (spelling?) sometimes called tailors' bunions. These appeared long before RD. I have orthotics from the podiatrist and wear wide fit shoes. They have got worse since diagnosis. You've already had some good advice so I wish you all the best

I had one once, apparently mine was due to osteoarthritis following breaking my little toe. I had a huge boney lump which kept growing which then had to be operated on.

I also have a large boney lump growing on my collar bone. The consultant measures it by x-ray every couple of years and when it gets too big he’ll remove it. He’s reluctant to do it unless absolutely needed as the scar will be a tad unsightly. Aren’t bodies funny (mine is, in many ways 😂😂)

Is it bursitis . I had a swelling on my elbow got quite large did reduce in size when I had a steroid injection . The steroid wasn’t into the swelling it was into my bottom. Now it’s just a hard lump but not as noticeable .
