Things I’m not missing.....

Picture another lockdown meal conversation both having worked from home again, not seen another living soul again..... we got to ‘what things are you actually not missing from your ‘regular life?’. Both agreed our journeys to work. Other half said ‘politics at work’, me - ironing work clothes, other half - rushing to eat packed lunch; me - spending 10-15 minutes each morning dampening down my hair into a respectable state for the public to see!

And I am loving having enough energy after my work day to go for a walk on quiet local footpaths, gardening or cycle - now nearly 1/2 a stone lighter than when this all started which is great for my RA symptoms 😎👍🏼

Is it rude to be thriving right now?? 🤔

Luckily before this kicked off I had arranged a change of work hours and dropping to a 4 day week in the new school year. Now instead of being unsure... I can’t flaming wait! 👏

One thing I have especially enjoyed doing is spending my normal petrol money on adding foods to the local food bank - I don’t do ‘money things’ online so am limited in my charity/community input options. Will keep the food bank input up when this is all over as it has really driven home how fragile some lives are in the local community (and beyond) when it comes to hanging onto/getting the basics met.

So over to you peeps... what are you NOT missing right now?

All the best

Ali

I love to take my time to walk the dog. If I’m tired after I can rest. Some mornings it was if I walk the dog I won’t have the energy to work . It’s one or the other and usually leave walking the dog to my son. No weight loss for me 🥺

I know exactly what you mean... it’s one or the other! I am realising just how much I hold myself close energy wise just in case I trigger a bout of fatigue or a flare and how draining this ‘holding’ is on my mood and emotional energy.

The main thing I am not missing is my commute to and from work which adds three hours to each day. 😊

Wow! 3 hours.... how are you celebrating getting those back? 😎

Sadly no celebrating right now for me as in a bad flare. The bonus is not having that commute as I just couldn’t do it right now. Instead I can pace myself at home with work and still be able to support my lovely patients and their families by phone. 😊

Sorry to hear that you’re in a flare but glad to know that you can work from home so no pressure to keep physically turning up.

Hope things ease soon.

Thanks, it has been a bonus having this flare whilst in lockdown, started in February. Now on increased meds with possible new meds being added in.

It is really positive that I can work at my own pace whilst dealing with my flare up and side effects of meds.

Every cloud has it‘s silver lining 😊

Still not great? Was hoping today would be better for you 🥺

Swelling and pain worse today sadly ☹️

in reply to Summerrain14

I’m like you . Boy I’m stiff from the waist down it’s hard work trying to move I broke out in sweat on my very slow walk.Hands tingling and some slight swelling. Think it’s working it’s self up for a bit of activity 🙄

Lots of rest for us today I think. Hoping you can get some advice and support about meds etc. I have another increase of meds tonight so am remaining as positive as I can that this may be the increase to settle this current flare up down. Gentle hugs 🤗

Hi J1707,

Sorry to hear that you’re also suffering- I truly hope things lift again for you - I just opened my emails and there was a quote from a Lemn Sissay poem which spoke volumes for me and so relates to what it feels like when my system plays-up ....

How do you do it?" said Night

"How do you wake and shine?"

"I keep it simple," said Light

"one day at a time."

Never heard of him before but now am going to spend some of my free time finding out and reading more of his works. 😎

All the best

Thank you Ali it really does some up RA

I think a lot of people are starting to believe there is more to life than just working. It’s going to be a shock to the system for many healthy people when they return to work.

Thanks again

He had a sad start in life however he’s turned his life around & helps many troubled teenagers. A very sensitive inspirational & likeable man. I watched a documentary about him he really is an amazing person.

I'm not missing the day to day pressure to do things/stuff, mainly pressure from other people, however good intentioned.

I'm not missing having to say no, or saying yes, then cancelling.

I'm not missing feeling I have to be clean and presentable to others all the time.

I'm not missing saying I'm feeling okay, when really I'm not.

I'm not missing the rush and bustle of life in a city.

I'm not missing the noise of the city.

I am enjoying peace and quiet to do what I want, rest, cook, read, listen to music or sit and think, or sometimes just sit.

Your like me Mmrr . like my own company if I need more I’ll go looking for it not having it imposed on me.

Nothing to be honest i hardly went out before this so this lock down is not really new to me. I love the silence where there is no traffic , but i love hearing the birds singing as somebody said somewhere that they sound so much louder when they are not drowned out with cars and lorries. I don't miss the nuisance calls as they seem to have stopped thank goodness long may that last.xxxx

I don't miss the planes overhead. I can hear the birds better and the sky looks bluer than normal.

I don't miss people parking on our private road or, worse, across it when they're taking or collecting children from school.

I don't miss hearing drunken people fighting or shouting and bawling on their way home.

There was a helicopter passed over the other day and it sounded so loud, yet previously I doubt I would have heard it so loudly. The birds sound so clear now there is no additional outdoor noise. Glad you don't have all those cars parked up and drunks passing by, savour the moment in those respects while you can.

For me I’m not missing shift work , coming home feeling tired when I been on the Early shift and having to keep going for the rest of the day , so nice to be able to get up without an alarm clock , also don’t miss going shopping, most of mine is done via click and collect now , which is great , and I love the peaceful days so much , I think I may be turning into a hermit .

2hrs hard drive to work and back on country lanes. Def not missing this.

Missing be socialable with people I love as I do love face to face interaction but on the whole not too much.

I'm only really missing the seniors friendship group I help to run as we had a full programme planned for the rest of the year, including trips out and meals etc. I hope eventually that will resume. Would like to be able to visit my elderly parents that live two hours away, but just have to wait for that. Otherwise I'm quite happy really 😊

Miss going to work as working from home can get rather tedious. On the other hand I’m rather lucky in that I live in the countryside and can get a couple of nice walks with the dog in. Can’t complain really I suppose.

Definitely not missing the weddings and having to have small talk with the mrs friends that’s for sure 🙈

Not missing the amount of take away menus and junk mail I used to get through the door, people talking loudly at the end of the cul de sac before leaving friends to go home after a night out, sitting in traffic coming home from work trying to get through traffic lights which usually took about four changes before getting through.

I hadn't paid attention to the junk mail, but now you mention it I've not had any either. Good isn't it !

I’m missing everything 😢. Miss my aquafit it really was perfect exercise for my joints a nice bunch of peps too. I used to go twice a week rain. Miss my dance class was rubbish at it but great fun & a great group to be with. I’ve been helping to run a lunch group which was great for the community. Missing my family 😢 FaceTime/Zoom just isn’t the same. Missing drinks with friends & a good old natter & hate phones.

So the pluses definitely the birds singing. 😎Not missing the traffic.

Only shopping once a week will never go back to shopping daily almost. Going through absolutely everything I own & letting go of loads. I’ve got way more out of the heath that’s down the rd as I visit daily instead of once a week.

😎Miss more than I gain but will be taking something’s with me when realised!!

Miss my grandchildren. I agree with all the positive things people have mentioned, especially the comfort of birdsong and not rushing through the days. But being without my toddler grandson and the 9 year old one for nearly 8 weeks now with many more weeks to come makes me and the 9 year old sad.
