I often get this but I always thought it was just my skin being sensitive to a hot shower, being sat or leaned on, tight shoes etc. The pictures of 'hallmark' symptoms are ridiculous and either photoshopped or literally coloured in!
For some months a couple of years ago, one of my toes was bright red and slightly swollen, but not any more painful than many of my other joints. I thought it was just the redness that I have under my feet and on the palms of my hands, but I happened to show to it to a GP (I was seeing her for something else which required taking off my shoes anyway). She thought it might be gout, and tested me for that, but I thought it would be much more painful if it was that... and the test came back marginally raised, and when repeated, normal. The rheumatologist, contacted by the GP, seemed uninterested and thought it was just part of the normal variation in inflammation in the joints.
I get redness on joints too, but, strangely I get red areas on my forearms, for example, and they aren't joints, so I don't know why that happens. Usually associated with aches, and disappears within 24/48 hours. Moves elsewhere. Anyone else experience this?
