I have just seen this and thought I'd better post it. I think the moral of the story is take everything you read in the papers with a pinch of salt.
The BVA have put out another message saying that the BBC have misinterpreted what they said, what a surprise! You should keep your cats in IF you have symptoms or are self-isolating. Otherwise just take the usual precautions of washing your hands after you’ve stroked them, particularly if they’ve just come in from outside.

Yep. Quite agree. Trouble is that people knee jerk after just reading the headline. My two cats are so ancient (one is 20ys) that they never leave the garden. The young dog is another matter but OH, who is takes her for her walks now, will discourage anyone else from petting her as an added precaution.
