Social distancing and food shopping update

Well, I did it. Turned up at Sainsburys at 7am for old and vulnerable people shop. There were quite a few of us! Certainly had to think about keeping a distance from others and not always successful. Some items were not available, kitchen towel, frozen burgers (for him).. a friend, who is very OCD waited until one minute past midnight to get on line slots at FIVE different supermarkets. Hope you're all managing. I'm waiting for my new chest freezer delivery, 10 - 21 days (40,000 people were looking at the Currys site that day at the same freezer). Goodness.

Hec! Looked at my ancient freezer and gave it an encouraging pat. 😳

Well done. You are braver than me! Not sure I could cope with that onslaught. My lovely neighbours did a shop for me yesterday. I feel bad for asking them. I think it was stressful. I have a local Spar shop. I might just sneak into that for the odd bit from now on.

My hubby was told to work from home (heart condition) so when I went shopping last week I was expecting him to be here this week, so have just run short of milk. Went to the co-op this morning to get some, and I have post nasal drip , had it for a year, gp given up as he has tried everything, so have an appt at hospital in April. Anyway went from the cold into the store and they had the hot air heaters on, and bang it started pouring down my throat. I tried so hard not to cough , but the more I tried the more hotter I got and the more it started pouring so I coughed into my scarf, frightened a lady, and said sorry I haven't got a bug it is post nasal drip but she shouted at me you shouldn't be in here.

I understand completely how frightened she was but got to admit I have had a few tears. No more trips to co-op then until they turn the heaters off.

Aw bless you! I have the same ptoblem with an ongoing cough left over from a lower lung infection. I can clear a room in seconds!

Take no notice. It's just fear talking.

It's hard, but we have to eat!! I had a weep just looking at the sun trying to come out, so I don't blame you!

Just been to our local store. Hubby in conference calls all morning. Needed some milk and a bottle of Baileys for mother in law.i won’t be going again. Hubby can do it. I was there for 11am it was rammed. Mainly older people. It broke my heart.🥺There was nothing. One elderly lady said to the shop assistant you said there would be a new delivery today when I asked you yesterday. The store assistant had tears in her eyes there was we restocked last night it’s all gone.no meat, butter, veg, bread frozen food, tinned soup beans , spaghetti, pop washing powder dog and cat food I could go on.there was a full car park at 7am with people claiming they were vulnerable. Staff said the couldn’t Enforce it even when they knew that wasn’t the case. They said it made distancing impossible. They are in the process of training mor till staff to cut waiting time. As the Baileys went through the new girl said oh I best check they are 18 and she said oh yes you are. I replied no I’m not this is what stress does 😁

Hubby and me did the same thing this morning Ginny. We were shocked when we drove in, the car park was full and as we walked towards the store we were horrified. The queue of people with their trolleys was rather long to say the least. We walked to the back and I heard a woman, as I passed her, say to someone "I understand that it was much worse than this at 7.00 am (we had gotten there about 7.20). The queue was stationery and there was a man in high viz jacket shouting out that he had to stop the people going in for a while as they were waiting for people to leave so that he could let people in. When we eventually got in, it was the usual - no toilet rolls, no pasta, rice, kitchen towel roll etc, etc, etc. My husband saw a woman with a large trolley with large packs of toilet rolls stacked up in it. We agreed that about half of them certainly didn't look elderly and maybe had not got the message about restriction of items. The queues to check out were almost as long as the store in each aisle. Needless to say, we won't be bothering again if it's offered. We were in there about 45 mins and purchased five items. I'd rather have had an extra hour in bed. 😖

I agree. So much for social distancing. I hear the government are thinking of asking older and vulnerable people (lists I've seen for this group don't all include RA sufferers) to self isolate by the weekend. BUT what about food shopping??

Exactly. So many things I haven't been able to get and still no Paracetamol too. Popped in to Tesco on the way home (it has a pharmacy) only to be told yet again that they still can't get any anywhere!!
