Life is changing now

This made me cry its by my son but I changed a bit so he's not recognised. It sums up that this is in pause of national life but safety is paramount. I just thought to share words of wisdom.

"Today was one of the toughest emails I’ve ever sent...

Scouts are prepared, we are resilient, we are careful, we are caring.

In the history of my Scout Group we have never stopped #scouting we have survived rain, snow, hurricanes, tornados, lighting storms, even when our hut was rebuilt we carried on, we even continued through WW2 to give youths amazing opportunities, but today I had to stop all meetings and events to protect all our members from something we can’t see, can’t feel and can’t stop.

Being a GSL is about having fun, but also making sure we are safe.

Today we made history, today we did our bit to stop coronavirus, today we went home.

The adventure never stops, it just sometimes has to pause to look at the views."

Well in the Girl Guides our motto was Be Prepared...I guess your son really is bringing that into the 21st Century.

That's right and I learned a lot in my guiding days and got my Queens Guide Award. So hope those survival skills I learned in Guides in the 20th century come in handy in the 21st century. :-)

Think I’ll get out all those badges we used to sew up our sleeves & try to impress!

I only got a few in Brownies and Guides he got the Duke of Edinburgh and Queens Scout Award. No idea where he got his sense of service from but very proud of him and he is very popular but not a goody goody either. But he is fun and a bit wacky so very popular.

Careful AC we may end up being recruited like Dad's Army! It was hard work getting my award back in those days, but I loved it.

Dad's Army ! yes my mum said she had the time of her life in WW2. Yes lots of sadness but lots of fun too.

He is so sad, but I thought the last sentence was lovely. We are going to FaceTime and be careful because of the baby. New life has to be protected doesn't it? Today I thought the weather is warming as the sun was shining and Spring is here with the daffodils out and primroses and violets a plenty. The garden looks lovely and the pussy willow is fading and the grass long. So some normal things carry on. Now grounded perhaps I won't take just popping to the shops for granted anymore.

Well we shall certainly be better off...I rarely come home without buying far more than I intended.

Must go out before incarceration to buy tomato plants...parsley seeds, chives, Basil....might even end up with a decent herb garden this year?

I dislike Corriander as it tastes like soap. Not keen on parsley either but like Thyme and Moroccan Mint. nothing like mint leaves in tea for a fresh drink, I made some quince marmalade the other year for church. Didn't sell well at first and had coriander in so having watched James Wong I made an executive decision it was Persian Marmalade. It flew off the table so i doubled price £5 a jar and went home with orders in pocket two of us made £600 in 2 hours. lol Enterprising or what ? Quinces coming from Persia and the parent of both apples and pears. Probably in the Bible the apple Eve had. A state secret now where they grow. lol

Good thinking ML.

I used to make marmalade with ginger...that got the “No way “ from a lot of folk until I gave it to them as presents in Ritzy little jars & said it was French! Amazing how people will eat “foreign muck” ...but if I’d told the truth ....I bet they would still have rejected it.

These days...Waitrose sell it in their economy range.!!

Nature will still continue around us, the plants will grow and the birds will sing. Make sure that any time you get is quality time with those you love and care about, even if it's on Face Time.

Thank you, that made me smile. Doing your bit by going home is a great lesson in self sacrifice for the children - learning to be self reliant / resilient is a wonderful gift. As soon as I read it the film 'Up' came to mind. Always makes me smile. Happy wishes.

P.S. If you haven't seen 'Up' its about a little boy scout! Beautiful film and worth a watch.

My husband is also a Scout Helper. He is almost 70 and has been in the Scout Association since he was a Cub, He has been a GSL and now repairs their boats and attends their Meetings every week. Our son is also a Cub Leader and has been in the Movement since Beavers.

I have to say my husband is not taking this 'shielding of the 70+ and vulnerable' very well at all. He is one for going out three days a week gardening for the 'elderly'. What will he do being under my feet all day???

I will show your post to him. Take Care.
