I am a 71 year old and on prednisolone Methortrexate and toficitanab. I have had RA for forty years and been on massive amounts of medication. My husband and I have decided to self isolate as a precaution. Shopping delivered to the door no visitors even family. Is it safe for us to go for a walk say at a nature reserve or somewhere very quiet.

Very sensible going into isolation and I’m doing the same. But some fresh air is a good idea and connecting with nature will lift your spirits. When I go out I shall keep well away from people and try not to touch anything and wash my hands immediately after returning home.
Hello.... like you I am social distancing but going outside with my dog keeps me sane! So I would say that unless you have symptoms, go for it! But avoid the tea room and wash your hands) xx
I hope so as live next to one, advice on local tv this morning was vital to get fresh air and look up Robert Preston on ITV his article is very clear about risk and why the government might put us oldies in lockdown ! I think we as a family will be just fine as have a garden and plenty to do but not so good for those in the town and particularly those already in social isolation. This is the time to be a good neighbour methinks.
I fall into 3 high risk catagories my husband in 2 so we will follow the governments advice and be sensible and one thing I do believe may be really important is not to frighten myself to death. All we can do is follow the informed advice really. So enjoy your walk and don't forget the gloves . x
I have been social distancing from others as best as I can for a few weeks now in public places and carry sanitizer, tissues etc. I think that if we have to isolate completely opportunities to get fresh air will be important. I will be able to get out into the garden and unless we are put into lock down may take a flask with some lunch and drive 7 miles to my coast and sit in the car with the windows open to get some air. But obviously I will be guided by what happens as each day something unfolds. Nature is as others say healing and uplifting and again I feed the birds which gives me joy and I think I have some flower and tomato seeds which I can be getting on with sowing if I'm not already too late. Take care
I live close to the Thames Estuary and flocks of waders come in swirling overhead, I love that and we have Marsh Harriers here, which will start sky dancing soon at daybreak so don't think anyone will be around 'cept me and hubby and friends. I'll die content if I go on the marsh looking out to sea. It's the magic of nature yet here I can also see the QE2 bridge in the far distance with the 'scope.
I cannot walk and ramble as I used too so life has already changed although its not due to the RA but CKD, and I faced death last year during a long spell in hospital so every day is great. To see my grandchild gives me hope and I so much want to see her grow so much left to do and see. I think looking forward with hope is really important and to be frank if my GP talks to me about cholesterol this week he can take a hike. We are watching trolls on the tv and they are singing the song Dance Dance I've got the feeling which my son and DIL opened their wedding reception partywith a routine that left us gasping. Who knew they could do that as had changed into the Scout uniform (he's the GSL and she's a Leader )so did it with their cub troop. You've bought back such good memories. Thank you. x
Thank you medway-lady, you too have given me inspiration with your post. I can only imagine when you have faced death in the eye, each day as you say feels great. I've had some awful times myself but now where near what you have faced, but no matter how bad things have got I've picked myself up, dusted myself off and held onto hope for better things to come. I too used to be a very active person and enjoyed walking, canoeing, dancing to name a few, but now I live life a little differently as my health declines but I don't give up. I've learned to adapt, still love doing things but in a different way now. I still love nature and the outdoors and like you like to greet the morning as begins a new day. I love hearing the birds sing and listening to the order they all sing in and often stand in awe and wonder how such a beautiful sweet song can come from such a small creature. It heartens me to hear the pure joy your grandchild brings, again new life and so much hope. Little ones are like sponges as they soak up everything and are eager to learn. Oh and they tell you how it is, if you ever want the truth ask a little one! So let's hope in the coming days ahead that we can still enjoy those precious moments of fresh air on our faces and soak up what beauty nature has to offer where we are. Take care x
So true and Holly aged 3 months says yes I've heard her ! when Nanny asks do you want that dress. My DIL doesn't hear her, but I do. She's said yes to a large noisy bear called Violet and a hideous mobile (over the cot not phone) that is made of fantasy animals that growl and his and purr. I thought the stuff of nightmare but she loves it. My son and DIL are real planet savers and baby is going to be too. I on the other hand think that in China or Vietnam a family might starve if we don't buy that particular item. lol
Hi, if you need fresh air and exercise while keeping social distance, the National Trust has opened its parks and gardens for free
