Five years. I was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis and then a year later, with RA too. It’s very aggressive and they’ve never really been able to get it under control.

I’ve had both hips replaced, bothering knees, surgery in both feet, both wrists and now I need both ankles replaced, the first of which is being done in February. What about you? How’s your journey been?

God, that’s a long time to have lived with it and particularly , through your teenage years- that’s got to have been difficult in so many levels!

I’m on my fourth biologic and I take methotrexate, leflunomide and arcoxia, alongside a cocktail of pain killers.

Annie122 profile image

I hail from Melbourne Australia. Born in inner London where some of my family still live. Lung problems started whilst England. Now loads of complications include IBD, RA and organising pneumonia. Steroids are best and worst friends. Can’t live without them.

However, I am now an advocate for better lung knowledge and climate change and health. We’re are in dire straits here in Eastern Australia with overwhelming bush fires and putrid air quality. The air is as bad as it was when I was a kid in London.

We must all hold hands to make a difference.

I live in Hadleigh Suffolk. I’ve had RA for just over 2 years now and I’m pretty good at the moment. I was diagnosed soon after my first symptoms appeared in my hands and wrist s and prescribed hydroxychlorquine and Methotrexate. I wish I didn’t have RA but know that in many ways I am lucky to have the meds to control the disease. I continue to run and keep active and now that I’m retired have time for myself and my family.

Perhaps some day there will be a cure but I know that’s a long way off. Happy Sunday everyone 😀

A small village in Aberdeenshire but brought up in fife. Diagnosed last year and have been struggling to get it under control, so many other symptoms appear , alongside RA meds I’m at moment having b12 injections ..

My biggest problem is I’ve been reacting to medications so it’s one step forward then then three back.

in reply toMaz63

I’m having problems with the meds as well ... they just don’t like me 🥺🙄

Fun to read where everyone is from. I'm in the very northwest corner of Washington state in the US. My grandmother was a McLeod from the Isle of Skye. I was diagnosed with sero negative RA 2 years ago. I'm on hydroxychoroquine and prednisone as I had a life threatening infection a year ago, bacterial meningitis following back surgery. I found this site after I found meningitis now. I have more problems with my spine, right now my right hip, thumbs and great toes.

I enjoy reading your posts, you all whine less than the Facebook group in the US!

Blessings to you all.

I’m from north Gloucestershire, very close to the borders with Worcestershire and Herefordshire. I was diagnosed last June with sero positive RA. Now on 20mgs MTX and recently added 200mg hydroxychloroquine but still having a lot of problems with hands and wrists. Keeping patient up until now but think I’ll contact the ‘advice line’ today to see if they can step up the drugs.

Hi Annie-I live in Houston, Texas but am from the Chicago area. A fish out of water!

I've had RA for 5 years now, take methotrexate and recently add hydroxychloroquin. I've had wrist surgery, 2 hip replacements and soon a rebuilt foot.

NanaFifi profile image

Hi Gio1997,

That’s a lot of surgery for only having had RA for 5 years, a lot to cope with. I e had RA & Lupus for 40 years and to be honest I’ve lost count of my surgeries! I inject methotrexate for the RA and hydroxychloroquine for the Lupus. X

Hello Whaleroad,

Can you tell me where and when you were In London? I was born and raised in inner London in the early 1950s and was in the epicentre of the Big Smog. This I believe has caused a lot of my health problems including PF and IBD. What are your health issues? There are very few people around from this period.

Cheers
