I have been fighting to stay off the dreaded pred but I think looking at the state of my hands and the cracks and bleeding i need to go on the for 10days to fight back. Not happy but hands are looking and feeling so so sore.
Hands damn hands: I have been fighting to stay off the... - NRAS
Hands damn hands
🥺🥺bummer ... you tried
Why do you think your hands are so dry?
I dont know it has only since diagnosed with RA. They split so badly then get weepy. Tried everything from creams/avocado oil/olive oil/nuetrogena you name it I have tried. It looks like some form of skin eczema but I just get given creams or prednislone which I hate taking as so far only thing that works. As soon as I take pred 5 days later skin so much better then I come off it and then about month later skin gets weak again.
Did wonder if it is part of my flares as knucles bad this week too.
I get very dry cracked skin on my feet last year during my epic flare (8ish months) it was desperate every day I used a pumice stone and tried every cream going fighting a loosing battle. It all settled down after
Could not get a pumice stone near these yet they are so painful I have tried a nail file (new one) but even that was too much,
🥺🥺
Do you think it has something to d with starting Mtx. It does change your immune response? Do you think it might do with your diet? The tomatoes were fine before Mtx? There might be a connection a new challenge for the immune system.
My gran used to swear by a cream from Boots by the name of cremolia. I do not know if you can still buy it
The only reference that I could find was
Nasty, definitely need something ASAP. I have never suffered that myself in spite of severe RA. We all differ so much. Maybe a GP appointment is needed.
Sounds like a GP appointment may be needed perhaps for some prescribed medicated cream to help. Hope you get something that helps soothe and heal. I'm struggling to get something I can apply on my scalp and face to help with my shingles as any creams wont get deep enough into the scalp (end up with a head looking like a chip pan) and shampoos haven't worked either.
Do see the GP for help with this and to try to discover what’s causing it. Also buy yourself an Aloe Vera plant, cut off a leaf and apply the sap directly to any cracks, rashes or blisters. It’s much more effective than any gels or creams containing Aloe Vera. You can wrap the remains of the leaf you cut off in foil and keep it in the fridge for up to two weeks, or until you need to use the sap again.
I’m using it on my swollen joint at bottom of my thumb and on rash in crook of my elbow and it’s really helping.
Lolabridge sadly the plant we have is not doing it so pred it is I feel for 2 weeks.
You might also try washing your hands with goats milk soap and using pure coconut oil as a moisturizer afterwards on your hands. I learned about this when one of my dogs had a dry skin condition that required steroids to cure. When the skin condition returned, I didn’t want to put her on steroids again so I googled natural remedies and found this treatment, and it worked. I have been using it myself since.
☹️
Sudocream is worth a try. Hope you get it sorted.
Could you ask GP for a dermatology referral? Could it be a sensitivity to a product/ detergent/ rubber glove? Dounds really sore..
I was given urea cream by Dr for my poor dry cracked feet and its been a miracle cream for me and going to ask for some more to finish the job
Hi, have you tried zerobase 500ml I use it on my lower legs for dry skin, it's used for eczema and other skin conditions, hope they feel better soon 🙏
Not heard of that will look it up tried nearly everything the only thing my hands like is typically an expensive oil I use for my face LIA Serum .
Yes, have a look, it's very thick and lasts ages, for all sorts of skin probs 👍
Plumcrumble it is on its way from amazon! Love your NRAS name love a plum crumble!
Deeb have you seen a dermatologist about your hands? It’s hard to find a solution if you haven’t a diagnosis 😊
No I keep showing local GP and consultant and they seem nonplussed by it so I just leave it. Think this a next request to put in 😀
My GP must love me with all the test and xrays killing the budgets 🤪
That's great, I bet you've guessed one of my favourite puddings 😁👍💞
A short course of pred can sometimes give a longer sense of relief.
I also suffer with cracked, split hands and they get infected. Been in 10mg pred since august and it definitely does help.
Take care x
Start back on it tomorrow 5mg usually does it x
Maybe a steroid cream would work if you don’t want to take prednisolone. Your GP could help you with that. Just a thought.
Zerobase has arrived never thought a jar of cream could bring me so much JOY on a Saturday night! Slapping it on and let's hope it works.
🤞Saturday nights aren’t the same with RD.. use to be out nearly every Saturday night now sleep 🥺
Hi Deeb, have you tried a steroid cream on your hands and wearing cotton gloves after applying? rather than taking oral steroids 🤗X
Yes nothing works
Mabey a request to see a dermatologist would be the answer if your GP can’t help, good luck! hope it improves soon 🤗X
They look so sore... I know everyone is offering advice because they do want to help as do I so here goes . My sister swears by bicarbonate of soda she soaks her whole body in a bath of bicarbonate of soda maybe soaking you hands in a warm bowl of bicarb water may take the sting away. Hope you find some relief somehow. ( you will be our resident expert on this topic)
I might try that once swelling and bone pain I now have has reduced. Its very weird might need to get checked for infection inside finger.
No might Dee if you have a notion just get it checked .( I’m in mother mode😜)
Try rubbing vaseline in at night and then wearing gloves for a while. Extreme moisture might work. I don't know how Pred might work but no harm in trying a two pronged effect. I get very dry hands made worse with rubber gloves. We had a water softener installed years ago and that made a huge difference to my skin. No idea if its because the water is soft or it means less detergent but we don't drink it. Might be worth investigating if you use a lot of detergent we are in a very hard water area so used too.
So sorry your hand doesn't look too good. Why don't you call the hospital and speak to the Rhumotogist Nurse, she might be of some help.
