I’m just wondering if anyone experiences easy bruising on fingers and palms with visible grey veins and little grey bumps. It comes and goes but I see it mostly when my hands feels cold and when I use a hand held electric mixer (the mixer gives me bruises). My first RA symptoms appeared late August and I have been on Methotrexate for 6 weeks and naproxen with stomach coating for almost 3 months. These hand symptoms are a bit alarming but in hind-site, my hands have always bruised easily. It just seems to happen for no reason now and is more general rather than just a spot periodically. I’m wondering if I now have Raynaud‘s or if this is medication related? I see my rheumatologist early January and had blood work done last week. I’m supposed to assume no news is good news with my weekly blood tests. Thanks so much!

Splotchy hands
Hi,
Yes, I get odd splotches and bumps on my hands. They also 'die' in cold weather - well, also in hot weather and everything in between! I would check with your doctor (GP ) though. I read that lots of people with RA/ PSA get Raynard symptoms.
I hope you get some answers soon x
Thank you for your reply! It’s hard to sort out what’s normal, what’s RA related, what’s medication related, or what could be completely unrelated. I think the blue/grey bumps and veins emerge when my hands are cold or bumped/vibrated. It makes me feel better that someone else has similar symptoms so thanks for that!!
Is it like swollen veins? I asked my rheumy about my bulging ones and she said it's what happens when hands/ fingers etc are swelling. I always forget what it's called! I'll try and remember... X
Yes, me too. For me it's all part of this stupid disease. But check it out! Thinking of you.
PS Are you from Halifax UK?
Lol. I wondered if I lived quite near you... But obviously not
I think that maybe you should get the bruising checked. Its probably the RA but best to have a professional look at them. I have witchy hands. Well, one of my granddaughters said I have. Bumpy and gnarly with prominent veins on the backs. They haven't swollen recently, thank goodness but I do get red hot electric shocks and aching if I've been daft enough to do housework. Wishing you all the best

Sorry for the late reply! I had my hands checked and learned that my hemoglobin has been declining - likely from the naproxen. My hemoglobin was normal prior to the Methotrexate and naproxen and has slowly declined each of the three months since. I see my GP tomorrow to sort out my Anemia. Thank you so much caring enough to write to me!!
Not a problem, 5Halifax. I'm very glad to hear you've had them examined and a cause found because unexplained bruising tends to make me nervous. Flippin' heck. Anemia too, eh? RA, the disease that keeps on giving. I hope your GP has a treatment plan in mind for you that works really quickly. Big hugs
J
