Muscle spasms in leg

Haven’t posted for a while, but started to get muscle spasms in my right leg again. Had problems over the last 6 years or so, and took quinine for a few years. It seems to come in flare ups, and only affects one leg. While at rest my calf “ moves” it looks like there is something alive in there ! I actually filmed it on my phone and showed my rheumy, thought it may have been from the meds. Her reaction was to smile, haven’t had it for a few months, but up twice during the night and it is yet again affecting my sleep. Also been told my arm muscles are atrophied. Anyone else suffer similar?

Your GP probably smiled because she doesn't have an aswer. I had something similar in both legs a few years ago. Nobody seemed particularly interested and I never got to the bottom of it, and it gradually ceased over the months. It mostly occured as I was dropping off to sleep...probably something to do with the muscles relaxing. Think I used to call it the jumping jolts or something stupid like that. :-O It wasn't funny though as the spasms could be quite voilent, for want of a better word, and on times the whole of my leg would jump up in the air as if I'd been given an electric shock. Used to hurt my RA damaged joints too! :-(

Hope you find out what it is, or even bettter it stops soon.

I get muscle cramps a lot especially left calf when I go to bed and similar to wishbone almost as if I am relaxing the muscles do a jig!

Bloody painful and would say I get it 5 out of 7 nights.

I get this especially during a flare in my ankle it effects my calf’s at night. 2 things help me . An Epsom salt bath magnesium helps the muscles. I bought a shiatsu foot massager that helped loosen everything up as my feet and ankles tend to freeze in one position. Might not be for everyone we all find our own way ( well sometimes)

This is a huge nuisance for many. I couldn't guarantee it, but magnesium supplement helps me and others. Mag. sprays also avail. Holland & Barrett, but not so successful for me. Enough-but-not-too much exercise (I walk) helpful. And do monitor that old faithless digestive system... Good luck.
