new knee

I should be having a new knee op in about six months time but I,ve just received a letter to go to the hospital next month for a pre op assessment,has anyone had the same.

Yes always had a pre-op assessment before an op, they only last 3 months so would query if they plan your op sooner. All the best. X

I saw the consultant two weeks ago and he said its a six to eight month waiting list,this pre op assessment would take place at least six months before the op.Many thanks for replying.

Okay different rules, all our hospitals in our area have a 3 month deadline, if this overruns you have to have another. A lot can change in that time. All the best, you will get a lot more opportunity to ask questions about the planned procedure. X

That seems daft to have a pre-op so long before planned surgery - perhaps they are hoping to do it earlier? I would ask.

My thoughts exactly,who,s to know what could change within the six months after the assessment.

Yes they’ll check basics like heart, lungs etc it routine. They have checklists to follow which is very reassuring
