I'm flying on the 29th May and supposed to have a steroid injection in my hip. I've been told it's dangerous to fly. I'm 79 have a pig's tissue mitral valve. Can anyone give me info? It's the physio who carries out the injection who tells me it's dangerous. My GP seemed surprised. I can't postpone the flight, I'm going to see my 13 Yr old grand daughter. The flight is 2 hours. Thankyou all

Why does your physio suggest it’s dangerous to fly? I’ve had numerous steroid injections into joints and flown long haul (we used to live in the Middle East and I flew backwards and forwards frequently) and never once has it been suggested that it was dangerous. Perhaps you should contact your rheumatologist or rheumatology nurse to ask advice?

I’ve never been told that before. I’d ring your rheumy nurse and check with them. Did the physio say why it was dangerous to fly? Hoping you don’t have to postpone your flight 😊

Have a look at this page - it's for medical practitioners but it gives the advice about which medical conditions might give rise to concern.

Is she concerned about your heart valve or the injection? Have you flown before with the replacement valve? For a short haul flight I can't see any reason why she should say that, but ask her for her reasons.
