Hi, I spent Monday morning at my local hospital having tests re my swollen calf and ruling out DVT. Turns out it was due to a Bakers Cyst, but because my bloods were too high (in what I don’t know!), I have to repeat the process next week. I also have been called for a colonoscopy after sending off my bowel cancer test.
I’m wondering if all these things are connected? And if they are, do the Drs make a connection or treat everything in isolation? I didn’t ask about the blood results, which I know I should have, but I was just glad to be going home after spending four hours there!
Feeling a bit lost and confused and also slightly anxious 🙁

I have no idea whether these things are connected. It sounds unlikely, as very different bodily systems/processes but I’m not a doctor. However you can’t rely on doctors joining up dots, so you have to tell them and ask them directly.
As for the colonoscopy, really try not to worry. I was picked up though screening and turned out to be benign polyps, which were snipped off during the colonoscopy. Apparently that’s the most common reason for the test to be positive.
Yes, because I know I’m a wuss....the worst bit was the preparation and even that wasn’t awful it was just that the stuff tasted rubbish. But everyone was lovely and they do it day in and day out, so you don’t feel at all embarassed.
Well yes, I had an appointment to go to the hospital in Monday and the letter re the colonoscopy came the Friday before. It’s good that they’re being thorough but it’s a pain also.
Hi I have found in the past when I have been refereed for various problems or illnesses I often have to ask could this be Linked to my RH and the reply is often I don’t know. I get the feeling they are only interested in their own area of expertise.I have had physio for different parts of my body with different physiotherapists often have 2 or 3 appointments in one week when I asked can I just have 1 appointment to encompass all I was told each symptom is treated individually . I went to a chiropractor who told me the problems I was having was a knock on effect from 1 problem area. I was treated for this and hey presto all sorted. ( not connected with me personally but my mother was having a breast surgery when she mentioned to the consultant she was having problems swallowing and his reply was not my area I’m breasts when she asked could he get some to look at her before she went down to theatre he said see your GP. 3 weeks later emergency appointment she had throat cancer) I don’t think Consultants tend not to piece together information .
I really should have asked about my bloods as my CRP has been raised for a while now but I’m not sure if that’s what they’re concerned about? And if it is a Bakers Cyst what do they do about it?
I know they’re busy, blah blah blah, but this is their job and I don’t feel I’m getting anywhere.
I suppose if you want someone to look at everything as a whole you’d need to go private? 🙄😩
I also suffer from Baker cysts, which from my understanding are caused from arthritis of the knee. Fluid builds up behind the knee causing swelling,tightness and pain behind the knee and into the calf. The doctors can scan the area and aspirate the fluid out with an needle. I haven't had it done myself,but my Orthopedic surgeon explained the procedure to me. I am suffering from one now behind my left knee,and I am having pain,tightness, swelling and stiffness in my knee and down into my calf. If you research it on Google there is alot of information. I hope everything goes well and you get relief soon. As far as the colonoscopy, it's not bad at all, you won't even know what happened until it's over, as others have said it's the beforehand that is the worst, the medicine taste awful and you will be up all night in the bathroom. Prayers you get answers soon and relief from any pain or discomfort you are experiencing, also peace to not worry about upcoming tests and hoping for an good report.
I’ve had bakers cysts behind both my knees, they got so big they ruptured, my legs filled up with the fluid. Ended up in A&E, I even told them that they’d ruptured prior to my legs swelling. I got checked for dvts, which was negative. On the plus side I haven’t had a recurrence for nearly 30 yrs, but my knees especially the left one which was the worst for pain etc still plays me up considerably. Again like someone else on the thread I’ve gone to a chiropractor and remedial sports therapist, who have finally stopped the pain which is right behind my kneecap, can’t get over the fact they sorted that when the nhs couldn’t for 2 decades. They do look at you as a whole person and not just one issue. Best money I’ve spent in ages. Hope you’re feeling better soon, just keep moving.
