PIP outcome...raging!

I applied for PIP back in November and had a home visit on 8th March, been chasing outcome and found out I had been turned down so asked for a copy of the assessment so I can appeal.

Received the assessment and it has very little bearing on what was discussed. The assessment was on the 8th and the report was written some 2weeks later.

My MSK showed very minimal range of movements and this has been noted in all his responses but it states that although the assessment was carried out on 'a better day' the issues are for a minority of days.

Under every section he has copy and pasted 'as the patient works full time and drives a car'...now not sure what this has to do with showering etc

I advised that I drive an automatic adapted car issued by WPMS but his report states I drive an unadapted car.

It states I have not been given any aids, despite clearly having and seeing my crutches and explaining I struggle to use them as I have such wrist and shoulder pain.

I advised that I have depo injections that only last for 1-2weeks. He states 'depot' injections that should last 4-6weeks so think that is why he has said issues are for a minority of days. He didn't even know what a depo injection was!

My mother was in for over half the assessment and advised what I can and cant do...but in his report it says no-one else was present.

States that to walk 5meters it took me 25seconds but he has stated he feels I could walk 200metres, because I work full time and drive a car! although even if I dont need to stop due to pain this would take me well over 10mins...this is acceptable?!

I am in the process of writing an appeal letter as I think despite him saying the report was to be filed in 2working days it took him 10days and he just copy and pasted and none of the information he has out correlates to the first half of the report.

You have the right to appeal , so go for it and tell it how it is.

One tenth of all DWP reports are rejected for submission to the records due to substandard written English/spelling/inaccuracies/lack of detail. Highlighting the fact that the vast majority of the DWP assessors are untrained in health/medical matters and disability issues.

I wrote a post yesterday on this forum about poor appointment outcomes from rheumatologist and GPs, I should have included DWP too.

Hi Tabitha, go to advicenow.co.uk

You do a Mandatory Reconsideration first and all you have to do is pop in your details and they generate a letter for you, which you can print and amend before posting.

Hopefully, the outcome of your assessment will be changed with this but if not they also help with the Appeal, which comes after your Mandatory Reconsideration.

Do appeal, I did and the DWP improved it without having to go to court - good luck.

Most definitely MR , then appeal saying : “ The assessor recorded that I ...... , but he failed to document that I have to.....due to pain and breathlessness...., symptoms of ......Work and Benefits say lots win on appeal . I’m currently applying for PIP2 and requesting a home medical assessment as my last one ( last year ) was in so much discomfort waiting out in waiting room ( over running I guess ) and don’t want to go through that again, so when they called me in I walked straight over to lie down on couch , so angry assessors don’t even check if we’re all alright - where’s their duty of care ?
