Hello, I am new to the site and new to RA. I am not yet on medication but have an appointment at Rheumatology Clinic shortly.

Has anyone heard of Moringa Leaf? I have heard that it has helped some people with RA so that prescription drugs are unnecessary. Has anyone had experience of this?

There are many stories about people who have cured their RA, or put it into remission with natural remedies. 99% of them are misleading. It is impossible to verify most of these anecdotes, but some are because people were wrongly diagnosed in the first place, or had reactive arthritis which goes away. NONE of these supplements have been scientifically proven to work reliably.

However, that is not to say that natural remedies don't have their place in helping people with RA. The more you can do to cultivate a healthy body the better it will be for controlling your RA, the drugs will work better and you are less likely to get any side effects.

Some people who have very early stage RA have been able to keep it to manageable levels this way. Others with more active RA have worked on a healthy lifestyle alongside conventional medicine and have eventually been able to taper down their drugs. But these approaches are hard work, and need determination. Not just diet, but exercise, stress reduction, sleep, weight loss, stopping smoking - the whole works. There isn't a magic pill that you can buy that will make it go away. Sorry, but that's how it is.

Very well put helixhelix and so true I'd add so many of these 'cure' posts are never substantiated and the poster quickly dissappears too. If dietsalone worked the NHS would never spend money on drugs, doctors etc we'd just be given a diet sheet and told to go away. But weight has to play a role in stress on joints and mobility too.

Wait until you have seen a rheumatologist ,talked things through with him & hopefully been prescribed a drug that will help you ......and then ask him what he thinks of it. It’s never wise to mix over-the-counter drugs with those prescribed unless your rheumatologist agrees they are safe.

But off the top of my head I would say don’t waste your money.

Many many people feel that complimentary medicine can help them ...maybe it does, maybe not...,But at the outset it’s probably quite a good idea to go along with traditional rheumatology Drugs, if for no other reason your joints will be protected whilst you find a drug that suits you.

Good Luck With your rheumatology consult....-make a list of all your

questions to take with you, because they will all go out of your head the minute you walk into the surgery!

Im sorry to hear of your dianosis. It is such a painful disease. My 18 year old daughter was diagnosed with RA in Sept last year. She has a gene mutation that makes her not a candidate for most of the RA drugs. So we have had to try a lot of natural things. I bought moringa leaf but we were trying so many other things at the time I dont know if it was very effective. We gave all those things up and tried the Paddison Program. Many others have as well. You can watch some of the podcasts of those that have healed. You will need to change your lifestyle but its lifesaving! Good luck.

Hi Textiles, welcome to the site, you will find lot of support and good information here.

I am also new to RA, just started treatment 2 months back ( 15 mg Mtx weekly inj also started with 15 mg of Pred now in process of tapering it to 0). Like you I looked into alternative treatments as well, but in the end decided to not risk joint damage and started on conventional meds. I am also researching & trying natural ways to treat my RA.

I found that Ayurvedic treatment helped -which includes fasting, cleansing / purging methods, Ayurvedic diet ( specifically the vata diet) & Ayurvedic meds. Although my Ayurvedic physician also advised me to keep taking conventional meds along with these alternative options.

I also tried alkaline water/ alkaline diet- not sure if it helped with RA but it sure controlled my acid reflux caused by painkillers & steroids. Overall felt better.

Supplements such as Turmeric, Vit D, Fish oil, Calcium also help in my opinion.

Never heard about Moringa leaf though.

Good luck with your appointment, hope you find something that helps.

You will hear many things like this as you journey on with RA. If prescription drugs were unnecessary I would not be taking any.
