Starting methotrexate

I'm 69 and have RA PMR FM etc I'm about to start methotrexate and terrified I'm not coping with the level of pain and debility

My mother died from methotrexate poisoning which had increased my fear

That’s an understandable fear Pasjc. Have you discussed this with your rheumy?

I don’t know anything about mtx poisoning other than if you take too much, as my friends dad did. But they do monitor you whist you are taking mtx and it should hopefully pick up anything quickly.

Tell them your fears and why darling and i am sure they will monitor you carefully. Also they will increase you very slowly anyway, but with your history they will increase very slowly. If you have any signs of something not right ring them or go straight to A&E. Good luck. xxxx

I have been on oral methotrexate for 8 yrs and doing well. No side effects.

I can understand how you feel. You will be monitored carefully . Medicine is always improving but please do talk to you rheumy or even get counselling. When we are very ill we naturally feel vulnerable and fearful.
