Hives driving me mad.

For three nights in a row hives have erupted all up the back of my legs. This occurs the same time of the evening and are gone by the morning. I have read this can be related to RA. I've never experienced this before. Anyone else had this?

I have had something similar a few weeks after hip replacement. I wondered if it was related to stopping pain medication or general inactivity. I mentioned it to the practice nurse who didn’t seem phased.vic vapour rub ( yes you heard me correctly) have mereief and seems to have kept it at bay.

Could it be a reaction to meds you are taking? Many medications warning state that if a rash occurs call the Dr and you can check with your pharmacist and stop taking the medication.

My daughter when she was little used to get really bad hives on occasion and we never ever found the cause, it suddenly just stopped happening, but doctors said it was some type of irritant or mild allergy. She doesn’t have RA she has something called EDS.

Have your meds changed at all? Used different washing powder on your bed sheets? My daughter used to regularly get it in our local church hall where she attended a group...

she hasn’t had it for years now but still annoys me we never found a trigger!

as it’s happening at the same time each day I would assume it’s after you’ve been near / come in contact with / ingested something that’s triggering it - I hope you find the cause! Do speak to someone if it continues, RA nurse/ gp etc

Al the best x

Hi

I had really bad hives all over my body when I took Cimzia. So bad once that I ended up in a and e! I still get them now but not all the time.. it seems to be when I am warm and my body gets cold if that makes sense?! My Rhumy referred me to dermatology as they can be linked to RA due to the immune system. I have a tablet called Telfast or Fexofenadine for when it flares up. Hope this helps. Sarah xx

I used to get hives at random times before I was treated for RA. I could never find a specific trigger but have come to think of it as part of my over active immune responses. Once I took my first RA med, I never had them again. My daughter has just recently started getting hives after having a baby and going back to work. Stress and lack of sleep are triggering her immune response I think. I worry that she is on the RA road.

My only help for the hives until treatment came in a med called hydroxyzine here in the USA. Good luck with your hives. I know the itch is maddening.

Do you eat anything perticular in the evening. Hives tell about a histamine reaction.

Use magicool available in a spray over the counter. Totally harmless (can be even used in babies). Totally effective. I never travel without it and always keep some ready.

Hi - Do you eat a lot of sweet food? I had hives for a protracted period of about 18 months and it seemed to be linked to thrush/yeast infection. I had cut my sugar intake right down and the only sweet food I ate was a banana. Low and behold, the banana triggered it and I had great wheals stretching from my shoulder down to my foot in a straight line. The itching is horrendous but anti histamines do help.
