There probably just aren’t current evidence based research literature - stories of people’s experiences are case studies and as people inquire, it prompts research. I did find this , which makes sense to test a few months afterwards. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
CBD and Methotrexate:: There probably just aren’t... - NRAS
CBD and Methotrexate:
To be honest it’s my experience that methotrexate can elevate liver function, AST and ALT all on its own which happened to me when on very low dose MTX. I don’t have experience with CBD but as most patients are monitored when on MTX I think it is down to the individual whether to use both. The research if you ask me is a bit vague not saying it’s actually the CBD that’s causing the raised liver enzymes.
Thanks for responding. I thought I was posting under a thread about cbd and mtx where people said they couldn't find info. It's really roving helpful for my pain. The reason people couldn't find anything is that the research doesn't exits yet. It's just saying that people that take cbd with any drug that can elevated liver enzymes should watch closely, either reduce the dose if there are elevations in enzymes or stop altogether. I just recently started taking cbd for RA. I'll see if there are changes in my liver enzymes after 1 month, as suggested. This was also helpful in that people that took 10mg/kg doses faired better with hepato-sensitive drugs in general than the 20mg/kg (17% showed liver enzyme elevations). Although it's not specific to cbd, people that take mtx even witout cbd have to wathc their enzymes carefully like you said. This is saying that more isn't better....so I am keeping the daily dose below 50mg/day.
I also have osteoarthritis. I'm not on any pain reliever- i.e. narcotics. An occasional Tylenol, supplements like turmeric is all.
Also a good point, how to differentiate between cbd and mtx elevations...except maybe that it correlates in time...like every if you take cbd, the enzymes change. there will be more research as the opioid crisis is prompting research in other alternatives to pain management. It would be good to understand more since so many people get good relief with cbd.
