Hi everyone hope you are all not feeling too bad this fine day

I have what might be a strange question I’ve had RA now for 3 years I’m on 25 mg mtx per week and 200 mg plaquenil per day 5 mg Folic Acid once a week. Now a couple of weeks before Xmas my big toe was sore on the side looked like an ingrown toenail but with the holidays so close my podiatrist was away so I left it till after the holidays and by then my other big toe was exactly the same. Finally saw the podiatrist and he treated both which hurt like hell but I have been back now twice more. They just don’t seem to be going back to normal !!!!! Is this just a coincidence or has anyone else had any similar problems Thanks guys

Because your immune system is being suppressed it will take a bit longer for them to heal. Has the podiatrist suggested soaking your feet in potassium permanganate? When I had ingrown toenails as a teenager I was told to do this and they ended up cutting the toenails to remove the ingrown bits.

Hi ruth_p thanks for the advice. I have googled and read Epsom salts or Apple cider vinegar is good for soaking in. My podiatrist has cut away toenail on both toes twice already. It’s really weird I’ve never had a problem like this before. I see him again this week so we’ll see what he says. 😄

Could it be a bit of gout? The big toes are always affected by gout.
