Hi bonniemillie12 and welcome. Is morphine the only meds you are taking and have you a diagnosis?
If you are still in that much pain on morphine I would see your GP or speak to your clinic nurse if you have one. x
Hi and welcome to this mad house, where we are all living our second, I agree with kitty, you seem in horrendous pain, I find that it helps to use a distraction method when I’m in great pain plus I have morphine patches,
What I do is to read online or do some colouring it cirtainly helps me and maybe some others, I wish you all the luck in the world and find some help to get rid of these pains.
Philip xx
Hiya bonniemillie12. You do sound in a state. Is it Oramorph you're taking? If so was it your GP you saw & what has he prescribed it for. Is it just (!) your pain in your hips, knees & hands & what did he say was the cause? You don't mention arthritis of any form, do you have any inflammation, particularly noticeable in your hands? If so do ask if your GP thinks it's an idea to test for Rheumatoid, or if he thinks it could be Osteoarthritis.
Just a few things to consider when you see your GP next. Also if there's an alternative pain relief or NSAID (anti inflammatory) if you have inflammation.
Just so you know I have RD (Rheumatoid Disease/Arthritis) & also OA & Oramorph didn't help my pain at it's worst either.
I hope you receive help, pain can be very wearing especially so if it's disrupting sleep.
hi thankyou for your comments i have ostoarthtitis in both hips and 3 operations on my back so i have it there arthritis in both hands and shoulder been having spinal and hip injections now my knees i dont know which one hurts the most most days cant walk sick of dropping things i get the shakes i have tried every tablet or medicine going i see the doctor next week see what he can do cant go on like this thankyou for reading my post you all keep well
Your GP will be monitoring & prescribing for your OA I would think then. Will you ask him for a medication review when you see him next week? You,ll tell him the morphine isn't working at the dose he's prescribed. I understand you've tried every tablet & medicine but there should be one or a combination for you that works. There are many your GP can trial you on. Mine is medicated with Butec patches (buprenorphine) ) patches & co-codamol for pain, amitriptyline for muscle pain in my neck & lower back (cervical & lumber spondylosis), pregabalin for nerve problems caused by OA & until recently etoricoxib, an NSAID for the inflammation. My GP worked with me & I saw her over many months to get my doses right, it must have been not far off a year, starting on low doses & increasing them slowly. Sometimes it's just getting the balance right of a few meds.
I used to drop things regularly because of the OA in my hands, still do sometimes but not as often. I was referred to Occupational Therapy who did hand strengthening exercises with me & gave me more to do at home. She also gave me hand splints & arranged prescriptions for things like perching stools, walking stick etc. They can be very helpful at arranging aids for your home as well if that's something that might be useful.
I hope your GP is helpful next week & you're starting on the right track to having less pain.
Hi Bonnie, having taken a wide selection of pain killers, inc morphine, although you must remember that the more you take the harder it is to come off them as i found out, mixing certain pain killers, MUST ASK DOCTOR WHICH ONES , but Morphine taken with Gabapentine often has a better effect. I was on Zomorph, 600mg a day and 5000mg of Gabapentine a day, plus a wide selection of anti side effect tablets. Although the pain was much less, trying to run a business was hard. Doctors just keep upping the dose until they get to the maximum they can prescribe a day. f your hips are in pain and your hands i presume its arthritis? Seeking a very good physio can often relieve the tension in the joints and give some relief. Very best of luck Bonnie. best wishes
thankyou
Ask your GP to refer you to a pain clinic- they should help you think about all kinds of aspects of pain ( medications, activity, mood, sleep patterns etc etc etc). They won't be specific to RA, but they do deal with all kinds of pain issues. Hope you find something helpful x
thankyou i go on the 20th and going to ask him to see somebody else been to pain clinic thats when i tried different medication and it didnt work for me thats when i started with injections but they will only give you so many then hospital for pain blockers but they only last for so long and they kill you as you cant have any pre med so will have to try something else thankyou for your reply and stay well
