Waiting to start on my medication but wondering if anyone can recommended any medication/ointments/creams/herbal medication that eases the pain of psa. Even if it’s just to get some sleep. Thanks in advance.

Sorry to say I’ve never found anything that relieves the pain much, but found that Solpadol - ie high strength cocodamol 30/500, which I think is only available on prescription - helped me relax enough to sleep. Otherwise, Voltarol 12 Hour 2.32% Gel might be worth a go, or a combination of the two. Such a vicious pain - hope you get some relief!

I've never found pain relief that useful either. But some times taking the edge off is helpful.

Some people find amitryptiline helpful in taking the edge of and aiding sleep. If you have good sleep the pain is often less intense. I personally don't recommend nsaids, but might be useful very short term. They can cause awful gut issues. Also alternating between paracetamol and low dose codiene may be useful short term. Long term codeine is addictive.

A steroid shot was the most helpful in terms of pain relief. If you haven't had one you could ask for this. Best to have a discussion with doc

Just to reassure you, the pain does get less with the right med and some lifestyle changes for many people.

Agree with Nettie re asking about a steroid shot to tide you over until you start on meds, which themselves will probably take a while to be fully effective. On the bright side, I have been on mtx for PsA since May 2017 and haven’t had a flare since before then.
