Food allergen test result

Just had my test results, told I have signs of wheat intolerance! Just wondered how many of you have had this test, and would you still eat wheat based products if given this news? I cut out gluten when I was diagnosed, just sometimes there are goodies in the office...that can be so hard to resist ☺️ yum.

You don't say what sort of test you have had. You do need to be a bit cautious about this as different tests and even different laboratories offering tests seem to give the same individual different results.

I'm sure that you will hear from many people on here, some of whom can get a bit heated about food! But make your own mind up from the evidence.

Hi Oldtimer - Hope you are doing well and thank you for your response.

It was the only test (blood) offered by my GP, so I guess pretty basic. They tested for Nuts, Milk, Seafood, Wheat. I was told today there was a reaction to wheat, everything else okay.

Thank you so much for the link which I shall certainly review. I look forward to feedback on this one. My best, Hessie

If your not eating gluten you can't be tested for Celioc, as its blood test so not sure what you've had done. But my feeling is that its not accurate and its dangerous if you suspect Celioc and its not confirmed. Its not alifestyle choice for me but you get used to it and no gluten in fudge. By the way I still have RA so don't believe stopping eating gluten makes any difference but its subjective and if I were you I'd ask gp for a proper test before worrying to much about it.

Interesting. I haven't a clue what this test was then, shall pick up the print out today. I stopped eating gluten from all the research I read up with regarding the gut. I do agree with you though need to find a proper test which again means private. Having RA is financially draining 😏 thank you 😊

No not private test the NHS one is ok and then its not a confirmed diagnosis without gastric camera. Did'nt feel a thing please just ask GP. Could be IBS etc? but it needs wheat to activate immune response so must be eating it.

A very big % of AI sufferers have gluten sensitivity and have shown to benefit from eliminating gluten. Many on the forum have eliminated gluten without testing and found that it has made a difference. We all react differently so it's a question of trial and error. Good luck xSimba

Thats ok but if a suspicion of Celioc then proper testing is vital and not just elimination because of a suposed element of relief. Really it tested and not Celioc then you can still be gluten free but its not a lifestyle choice which is great anyway and not a medical neccessity. x

Hi Hessie

I am a food scientist. If I was diagnosed with a wheat intolerance I would avoid products containing wheat full stop. Your body has enough to contend with when it comes to having RA. Don't add to your body's woes by continuing with the wheat.

Hi Joy - noted, you are right. I had stopped, but started feeling what’s the point as the inflammation is still high and I eat incredibly well. I just thought, just eat and enjoy life come good days and not so good. But I agree I shall put my sensible hat back on. All the best, Hessie

I don't have any food intolerance's/allergies and have eaten well for many years. All part n parcel of being a food scientist for sure.

But now having RA I have found that if for example I go out for a pizza I pay the price the next day with what I call my 'food hangover'. Something I did not have in the past.

Luckily my favourite cuisine is Thai. No food hangover with Thai thank goodness!

Your palate will soon adapt to a life without wheat products. And you will find all sorts of 'goodies' that you will be able to gobble instead. 'Foods free from ...' have come a long way in the last few years.

all the best
