I am taking 200mg Hydroxychloroquine daily, 20mg Methotrexate weekly, 5mg Folic Acid daily except MTX day. Does anyone have an answer as to why I am losing weight without reducing my calorie intake. I am currently experiencing a flare up and have had a 120mg Depo-Medrone injection. Do any of you have an explanation or experience of this? I don’t have any excess weight to lose.

Weight loss
I wish when i was on that combination i could have lost weight. I don't have an anawer for you have you contacted your gp or rheumy to ask them why your losing weight. Hugs.xxx
A couple of years ago I had a huge flare and my methotrexate was increased to 25mg . I was also taking hydroxychloroquine and I had my knees drained and steroid injections in them. I lost about a stone and a half in a short space of time but had no appetite and couldn’t eat whatever was put in front of me. I assumed at the time it was because I was in so much pain and very down plus leading up to that I was busy moving house and other things. On reflection it may have been the high dose of methotrexate. I am now on biologics with 15mg methotrexate, no longer take hydroxcychloroquine and have been very well thankfully for quite some time. Unfortunately I did put the weight back on but l am now regularly exercising at the gym a few times a week and regained and increased muscle tone which is supporting my knees which were badly damaged and will need replacing. Good luck!
Hi. I have a similar issue when I flare. Rheumy just says it’s disease activity and to try and eat more and eat higher calorie items.
Hi I am in the same medication I wish I could lose weight I have to exercise 4 days a week just to stay as I am but I am lucky because I can do some exercise I would get checked out if you are losing too much x
I you sure you are not reducing your calorie intake even just a little bit each week?
I take my MTX on a Wed night, I find I eat very little most of Thu. I have no appetite thanks to the MTX on that day.
You should ask your medical team.
Unexplained weight loss needs to be monitored and investigated if it continues.
