Very bad night sweats

I was diagnosed with RA about three years ago. Does anyone suffer from very bad night sweats ? I am waking in the night almost every night and my bedding and I are both absolutely drenched. So drenched that it feels like I have set the bed, which I havent.

Anyone else suffering with these types of sweating ?

Thanks

Hilly

Hi Hilly

I know it’s awful.

Yes I had terrible night sweats for a long period of time until my RA was more under control. With all the inflammation body temperature is raised anyway. As I see it as soon as your RA gets more under control the more likely they are to go away. I still get the odd night or nights when I am bad but it’s no longer constant. All the best and hang on in there

Hi Stormpetrel and thanks for your reply. I am just so fed up with this almost nightly event.

It's a very popular topic on here. If you check Related Posts you'll find lots there. Whichever you choose you'll find further replies under that page's Related Posts too. It's something I used to have when both my RD & my pain wasn't controlled. Also it's helped changing our mattress.

I hope you find relatable posts.

I have night sweats when I feel unwell with my RD. I asked my rheumatologist about them, she said she had never heard of RD patients having night sweats which I found very difficult to believe.

It does seem very common!

When I tried to discuss it with the medical team, they aren't very interested either. They mumble about it being common on people 'on that medication' or 'with immune problems'...

I have found it helps to have lots of layers during the day, and a silk duvet (got it in a sale) which is very light but warm and dries quickly after getting wet from the sweat after a bit of wafting about!

But seriously it wakes me up. I get up and go for a pee (otherwise I lie there thinking 'Do I need one?') which gives the bed a bit of time to dry out. Then lie down again wafting the duvet... Happy times!

It is "normal" because you have a wide-spread inflammatory disease. Think of it like 'flu, without the virus. But your body is reacting with a severe and sustained inflammatory reaction, This means fever and fever can mean sweats. Good luck.

Yup. Night sweats from time to time plus hot flushes during the day. That's when I'm not shivering under a heated throw because I'm so cold. Wonky thermostat
