Hand Is Aching :(

My right hand is badly inflammed just now. Knuckles are red and swollen and it feels like someone is jabbing me with needles! Could cry. I am right handed too! My rheum said at the start of this disease that my right hand was trouble. He was right! Anyone know why the inflammation hits a certain area worse? My R/hand/wrist has taken a beating.

I can show you lots of pics of mine it's the most horrible pain like red hot nails jabbing in and knuckles red an burning hot I put some tissues in a zippy sand which bag and ice and put my hand in it zip it round wrist and rest put another in freezer tissue just stops ice burning skin cotton wool will do as well anything soft

That's a good idea! Thanks. Red hot nails sounds more appropriate than needles. Flares are a scary reminder of how awful this disease can be!

Shalf both my hands get hot when the rest of me is okay ! Ice packs help with a day or two of resting them as much as I can.

I'm going to try the ice. My left hand gets painful sensations but no comparison to right. The bone between wrist and hand is now visually prominent. The damage is continuing. 3 months on Baracitinib. Might be time for a review!

Sorry to hear you are in so much pain. Always left ankle for OH. other joints have all joined the choir on and off and sometimes simultaneously, but ankle as yet untouched by meds. No answer why it favours one place over another I don't think. I hope you get some sleep and it settles. Sympathies.

Thank you Norisa. It's very odd why it's attacking my right hand/wrist so viciously. I'm glad my other joints are bearable but if I had the option ,I would tell it to go and feed of another joint and give me less pain! No, actually if I had the choice I would tell it to bog off!

oh no that's not good. If you can get out you could try some Deep Freeze gel on it ? I find that it works well on my knees and wrists from time to time, and gives some relief. That's if you can also manage to squeeze it out of the metal tube too - apparently, they cant put it in a plastic one - I asked !

I use BIOFREEZE Gel it is in a plastic tube and works a treat. It is my Left wrist and hips that takes the brunt now. It used to be feet and Right wrist. I am very well at the Moment though. Rhuemy stopped Leflumonide as it sent my blood pressure through the roof. They have started me back on Benepali injections and I am hoping they will keep me stable for next few weeks. Looking forward to 2 week cruise on the Med next week!!!!!!!!

Oh Shalf my heart goes out to you for I know exactly what your going through. My right hand is one of the worst areas for my arthritis to hit. The pain is almost unbearable. I have paladromic rheumatism. I’ve had it for over 30 yrs. I’m on 20 mg of Methotrexate per week and Sulfasalazine. Am in remission at the moment and so thankful for the break. Good luck.

Thanks Maggiemae, very kind of you. I wish it would leave my hand alone. I'm trying to exercise it but too sore just now. It needs TLC. Any tips on how you coped when your right hand flared up? Suzie X

I wish I could give you some helpful advice but just getting dressed with one hand and trying to manage on my own is very difficult. I am thankful the pain and swelling will only last 2 to 3 days and then find another joint to torment. Like I said I am remission which has given me a much needed break. I hope the Methotrexate and CBD oil continue to help me. Good luck and wish you well Shalf.

I must say for me it’s totally random and i’ve also had more problems with my handle/wrists this past month. It usually begins to settle after 48 hrs but can be excruciating at its worst. Hope you’ve managed to find some solutions through here and feel better soon 😊
