Hi. I have a dry, irritating cough and no voice for the past week. It could basically be just laryngitis but I have heard that it can be linked to RA i.e. a high proportion of people with RA experience laryngeal symptoms. Its really annoying me, partly because I'm getting very little sleep and also because I am a singing teacher. I have a week off work but Im hoping its sorted by next week or else, I'm a bit stuck!! Anyone have any tips? Many thanks x

Hi Elmo, I too am having throat issues at the moment and I saw an ENT Consultant last week who has organised various tests. It was my GP who referred me. I'm so glad I'm finally getting it investigated. RA comes at us in many disguises so I wouldn't be surprised if my issues turn out to be RA related. Have you discussed a referral with your Doctor ?
no, not yet as its only been a week and they expect normal laryngitis to last upto 2 weeks so I haven't been to the drs yet but I have an appt with my gp about something else tomorrow so I will mention it then. Good luck with your investigations. Keep us updated!
I have PsA arthritis and trouble with laryngitis type funny voice my Doc thinks it’s reflux issues and I’m taking stomach liners, seems to help.
I do take a lot of med’s so it’s just an idea, hope U feel better soon
Good luck and U find an answer ASAP. Ladyinred.
I had the same last year. still doing exercises given by my ENT surgeon and voice coach. blowing bubbles... not like kids but deep down in water, facial steaming 5 mins a go twice a day, breathing through your diaphragm . I had nodules and callouses in my vocal chords from intense cough that out of control.
they said NO cough medicine or sweets as would make it worse.
good luck
