Sugar and dairy seems to waken up the antibodies that attack my joints! Very odd! I think when we have to live with this condition, we can become rebellious to the do's and dont's scenario! I certainly can. If I have the natural urge or craven to fancy a particular food or drink then why shouldn't I have it! Oh yes, because it may cause a flare! My goodness, a prisoner in your own body springs to mind!

Hi, yes I have and it appears to keep inflammation calm. It's a complex thing to monitor. Not straightforward. Has to be tested a good few times but it's not everyone's cup of tea to do that and it may be something entirely different that triggers flares. Try it and see! Be prepared to be patient though. No easy fix I'm afraid. x
I do think it makes a difference what you eat. My inflammation is calmer when minimal amounts of dairy and no gluten. The best for me however for controlling flares has been LDN.
Sugar and dairy are substances which can cause inflammatory reactions. It's like everything else, take it in moderate amounts and you'll probably be fine. Good luck.
Yes, with the hot weather I had ice- cream! Also some chocolate bars to boost my energy ( not an excuse ). Also cheese! So, I shall eliminate all those again and see what happens. My staple diet is fresh fish , veg and salads. I had a moment of kindness to myself which may have backfired.
It's really funny that so many identyfy sugar as triggering inflammation. I thought so too at one point but have found that sugar is actually good for me. Best in fruits and berries molassis honey and unrefind sugar. Refined sugar is just empty calories but in moderation makes no difference to me, it gives me energy that I seem to have difficulty getting from metabolizing protiens or fats.
Hi Simba, I don't think anyone can categorize regarding any triggers. I personally eat fruit sugars everyday and I am fine with that. When I'm feeling low and sore I want something to eat that cheers me up! Ice-cream and chocolate does that but I suffer for it. Not sure why. The body works in intricate ways! x
I also feel if I lie down too long I get painful joints. On moving and light exercise I can feel better. I find that interesting that it can come and go with change.
Hi Suzie - Again for me, stress - My RA was totally in remission (and had been for two years) until I had surgery on my knee, and then two weeks later, my wonderful hubby had extensive prostate surgery. I love him so much and was trying not to be scared. Then, he was delayed for two hours going into surgery, and in recovery for 3 1/2 hours (turns out they were waiting for a room). By the time he got to his room and got settled, I had been there for 12 hours stressing, then home for a whole 5 hours of sleep and back to bring him home. I flared worse than I have for years... I'm almost out of it now, but it is taking a long time.. So, yeah, stress... =)
Stress definitely, overdoing things but not until day or two later, otherwise i’d stop lol 😂
I do know sugar causes inflammation as do other foods. While I am not going to religiosly follow an anti-inflammatory diet, I'm doing research and making changes to my diet. Sugar definitely makes sense in your case. Don't know as much about dairy, but still researching. Does the flare that comes with sugar feel the same as with dairy?
Apologies, I thought I had replied to everyone on this thread. Yes the flares are the same. I do love cheese and give myself a small treat now and again but my body doesn't like it. I get pins and needles around some joints almost a warning sign to not eat anymore cheese! Hate that
Try to use turmeric , it has been working for me as I don't have the flares as before. It might take time but it's worth trying. You can get the capsules one as they are easy to take.
Apologies for late reply. Thought I had replied to everyone on this thread. Yes, been using tumeric for a while now. I use powder which I buy from Asian store. Put some in a salt seller and sprinkle on whatever. It's difficult to know what's doing what because I eat very healthy food. Spinach is also very good.
